• SONAR
  • No sound generation from SONAR 8 when it's not the "focused" windows application (p.2)

Rather than ASIO4ALL, I would suggest uninstalling ASIO4ALL and running SONAR in WDM driver mode. For friends with laptops without an external audio interface, WDM has often been the solution to issues with SONAR. ASIO4ALL is actually using WDM mode anyway, but I have seen enough flaky behavior with it that I no longer trust it.

It is not an ASIO4ALL issue, the driver sharing option causes SONAR to go silent when it loses focus. The complaint which resurrected the thread is a perception that the switch is backwards. The driver sharing function works as documented.

Yup exactly wake me up today sorry, my brain was inverted as well...

old thread alert.
revived with post #8

Hello Scoot. Is there any problem in reviving a post that has not been solved?

It's not a good idea to bump/piggyback on the thread that is 6 years old. It can cause a lot of confusion and unnecessary posts. We have all seen countless examples of it.

Regardless Scook's post was only designed to be informative, and it certainly helped me out. So please don't be surprised if people warn other people that an old thread has been bumped, many of us attempt to indicate it when we spot it and it's a good public service methinks.

Thanks..

Generally it is not a good idea to revive extremely old threads even when the problem appears to be similar. It is a better idea to create a new thread, if necessary add a link to the old thread. In this case, there appears to be confusion over what a feature does. The "share drivers" feature is documented here http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X3&language=3&help=Dialogs2.053.html

Share Drivers With Other Programs.  This option allows other software to access device drivers. When this option is checked, other software can access device drivers when SONAR is not the focus of Windows.

In other words when "share drivers" is enabled SONAR will not exclusive use of the driver. When SONAR loses focus it will give up the driver.

The warning was intended to make everyone aware posts prior to #8 were old and not to bother responding to them directly.
