Yeah, and it's not like stuff like iphones/ipods have enough horsepower to run any music apps....oh wait.

This might put it in perspective:

Cheers...

I wonder where something older along the lines of a Q9300 would fall on that list...

OK so I was curious about this and happen to have a cheap little ASUS T100 running Win8.1, so I decided to try loading Sonar on it. The T100 is sort of a cross between a tablet and a netbook as it has a 10" touchscreen but comes with a detachable keyboard. It has an Atom Z3740 @1.33 GHz and 2 GB of RAM.

The result is that it works, but you really (!) need to pick your synths/FX carefully and don't expect very low latency. For instance with z3ta+, I needed to lower z3ta+'s quality level setting a bit to keep from getting dropouts or the audio engine shutting down, but the Lounge Lizard EP that comes with Sonar seemed to be fine running through a couple of the Sonitus plugs.

I should add that I'd really recommend a cheap laptop with a Core i3 over the Atom, unless you just absolutely need it in a really small and light tablet format.

The Atom might be workable, but there are major limitations compared to a cheap laptop that would be vastly more capable.
