Im going to clean up all my projects..i want to delete the recordings in each project as well to save space..can i just delete the project file from the dropdown menu in my open daw...file/open/ then the cakewalk projects file opens...so can i just right click/delete ?..will that take care of the recordings associated with that project ?...hope i made sense

Hi. You will need to locate the folder containing your project, and delete the whole folder to delete the associated data.
Make sure you have made a backup before doing so.

Transfer everything to a back up drive first. I never delete anything ever until it has a back up. 
 
Then just delete the folder using Windows. 
Sonar files are no different than any files on your computer.
You can move then, copy and paste them, delete them,, whatever you want.  

In case you need to revisit at a later stage.
If it's all done and finished, just delete the folder containing your project.

I think it is a good idea to check the project's audio files first. Open "Project - Audio Files..." to see where your audio files are located. If all audio files are in the project's audio folder and if you have not copied the project without copying the audio (and still use the copied project), then it is save to remove the whole project folder. If there are some audio files located in the general audio folder, then it is probably wise to delete them before you delete the project folder (but again be sure that you have not copied the project without copying audio files).

The reason I never delete anything is just from past experience with any data. You just never know what you might need to re visit someday. I'll agree that if the project was going no where and not worth keeping , sure, nuke it. 
 
 Hard drives are cheap and storage is no longer an issue even on a small budget. So one does not need to obliterate anything that just might be needed again someday. 
So just out of habit I never completely delete any of my music files ( or photos for that matter.) 
 
My system is to have a "working" data drive for Sonar project folders. I keep only my working copies of projects on that drive. Everything else, old projects, song ideas, client folders are on a 3rd data drive as well as stored elsewhere usually 2 - 6 times. So I keep my Sonar data drive uncluttered this way. I also know that only my most up to date files are stored there so there's no chance o opening an obsolete version. 
 
 

When doing project housekeeping/cleaning, ProjectScope utility for CWP projects is your friend if you are browsing through multiple projects looking for related audio files. You don't have to open each project in Sonar, just browse through ProjectScope to see the related audio. (btw, works in reverse, too. If you have an audio file that you don't know what cwp file it's attached to, you can search your cwps with ProjectScope to find the "parent" project. Much faster than using the cakewalk audio finder utility.)
 
Also, if backing up old projects that will then be archived (for those of us who don't want to truly delete anything-Just In Case), consider re-saving projects first as CWB (bundle files). Then, project and all related audio and everything is one file to archive.
