@Mudgel - thanks.

Regarding #5 I had posted earlier, and you had commented on - I agree, it was not typically something I would normally do, but my request was truly a personal one, concerning a thread I had initiated, that had nothing to do with any capacity of this new Forum Host role.

Normally, if a thread has sort of run its course, I have once in a while jumped in and poked fun at something or whatever.  In this particular thread, there were still folks actively adding to the thread's original purpose, and I did not want to derail that.

Even then, I only politely asked if the thread could be left for its original topic.  I hadn't gone after anyone - I actually wished them the best in the next sentence, and just asked that they take off-topic dialog to a new thread.

All I can do is reiterate that regardless of some number of folks accepting roles as forum hosts, the details of what that role is and how it will be implemented are still being worked out.

Whenever the Cakewalk staff complete their preparations, it is my understanding that some sort of announcement will take place, and will spell out the details at that time.  I do not know when that will be.

The forum host role is intended to assist both the forums and the Cakewalk staff - if it were not, then I wouldn't have accepted the role.

My entire purpose for being present in this forum is to assist where I can, and for me to receive assistance and education along the way.  Nothing whatsoever will change that.  I have a deep appreciation for both Cakewalk/Sonar and for the community of folks in these forums, and nothing will change that.  :)

For me, point 5 was not typical of your posting style and seemed to me to be an expression of authority rather than a polite suggestion or request.

I've often seen Bob, as well as others, try to steer threads back on-topic when they get too far off-base. You don't need to be a moderator or host to do that.

I for one love X3 and I encourage all that have put off upgrading to do so now. I think Bob has done a great job on this thread dealing with sarcastic remarks that if thought through would not have been made.

One thing that has always been the case on these forums is an OP has every right to ask people to stay on topic. There is no law that requires it, however good manners would dictate that we do our best to keep things on topic.

If one does have a question that is not relevant to the OP there is nothing wrong with starting a new thread. Every member has that ability and that right.

Agreed. I sometimes go so far as to extract a "sidebar" comment in a thread and start a new thread based around (with credit) it if it seems like an interesting topic.

Shouldn't you all have started a new thread to discuss this ?

Its still the same price on the store that its always been £119 here in the uk for producer.

Actually on this page, it shows £59 for upgrade from X2 Producer to X3 Producer, £79 from any version of Producer, and £239 from any version of Studio.

Sorry but I've been trying to reply to this since you left it, but server errors have stopped me posting anything, but if this works then thanks for the link, why they cant change price on the store I don't know, but I've been checking there often hoping for a buy now get X4 for free when its out.

If you are having trouble getting a sale price to show up in a cart - I would suggest you send a Private Message to either Ryan Munnis, or Noel, or one of the other Cakewalk folks who occasionally pop into this forum.

They have sorted these kinds of things out for folks in the past, and I would hate to see you wanting to take advantage of a sale and then not be able to actually purchase it at the sale price.  That would drive my NUTS.  :)

I run X1d Producer, love it sort of. Very much a serious weekend hobbyist.

I would stay with X1d, except it apparently doesn't and won't sidechain with third party apps. If I upgrade to X3e for $99, I'll gain that sidechaining but I'll have to figure out new comping with the take channels or whatever they are called . . .

. . . I already own licensed versions of Melodyne and AD2 - if I upgrade, and X3 automatically installs the Sonar versions of Melodyne and AD2, do my existing licenses get screwed up?

I'm on the fence - - -

thanks,
-Tom
