If I upgrade to X3e for $99, I'll gain that sidechaining but I'll have to figure out new comping with the take channels or whatever they are called . . . Just follow the example on how to do "speed comping" in the documentation. You'll never look back... I already own licensed versions of Melodyne and AD2 - if I upgrade, and X3 automatically installs the Sonar versions of Melodyne and AD2, do my existing licenses get screwed up?
I don't have a definitive answer, but I have Editor installed and wanted to downgrade temporarily to Essential to see if a technique I wanted to write about could be done in Essential. I couldn't find a way to do it. Then I thought aha! I also have Studio One Pro installed, and it came with Essential so I'll just try that. However, when I called up Melodyne it showed up as the Editor version, even in SOP that didn't come with it.
So based on this, it would seem that if Celemony sees that something has already been installed, it skips over making any changes. But this is not a definitive answer.
