  • Sonitus Compressor - Time to Live?

Each time a new release of Sonar is in the offing, I get the feeling that this time support will end for DX fx, and consequently my beloved Sonitus:fx Compressor will die. In anticipation of this day, I force myself to use other compressors (including the Pro Channel ones). I always find myself sneaking back to Sonitus. This is not so much because I sense anything really superior in its sound, but because it is so straightforward to use. The GUI is plain and simple, and it is perfectly clear visually and audibly what your tweaks are doing. I know it is fashionable to say "use ears only" but I find it really helpful to see what is happening, too. Am I missing something with Pro Channel or indeed any other plug-in compressor?

I am only talking about individual track compression here, not bus/mastering applications, by the way.

Or you could just continue to use the vst version if dx support is dropped.

I can't imagine any good reason for CW dropping DX support, ever. There's just no need and no advantage in doing so. The code's already in there, and solid. DX isn't going away. It's still maintained with a new version coming, and supported in new Microsoft products such as the XBox and the Microsoft phone.

Does anyone still make new dx plugins?

Sony with Vegas and Sound Forge. DX is not dead yet.

The Sonitus effects are way underrated by many users. Some of them still have no equal to this day.

But are any of the dx effects with Soundforge and Vegas new? Most of the effects in Sony Products are older than Sonitus or third party VST. Not knocking them. They still work great. I was just curious what the likelihood of seeing new dx fx are.

Ditto this. The Pro-Channel compressors are both pretty good, but the lack of extra controls continue to plague me.

Sonitus' UIs are top notch in my mind. Dirt simple, and designed for a mouse user, not someone trying to emulate hardware, which simply doesn't work in a mouse-driven environment.

I love the sonitus plugs but some emulation plugs work just fine. The CA2A is awesome despite having few controls.

You are not alone.  The Sonitus:FX Compressor is my go to compressor for the same reasons.

I am going to try and learn some of the other compressors...........eventually.
