I think that's the catch 22 with Sonitus plugins. The value of developing new versions is probably far more reliant on the projected ability to sell to non-sonar users. Putting research into rebooting something that Sonar users enjoy as an included plugin but may not be willing to pay for as an extra could backfire. The fact that the old versions work just fine makes the matter even less pressing. Adding new features is risky and keeping as-is but just making VST3 may be even riskier. I would guess Cakewalk will take the if it ain't broke... approach unless they suddenly get you incentive to do differently.

I would be looking at the Z3TA+ being upgraded to Z3TA+2 as the model here which was extremely successful.

I think that model worked because Z3ta+ had such a strong non-Sonar following. Prior to the launch of Z3ta+2 you could still find current references, tutorials, listings in "best synth" polls concerning Z3ta+. Finding a mention of Sonitus outside of this forum or a Sonar specific article/video is highly unlikely. Of course I could be wrong, butI think the window to market Sonitus plugs heavily has passed. Not many remeber the Ultrafunk days.

Using:
Multiple instances of
sonitus:   gate   eq   modulator   compressor   delay   reverb
 
And
CW:        amp sim    multivoice chorus/flanger
 
I often use the sonitus delay before perfect space (canyon, cave, central station,...).
 
(And my favorite giant reverb sound now is perfect space with a forest impulse, followed by perfect space with cooling tower impulse.)
