OK, here is one for the MIDI power tweakers. I have a Johnson JStation that  I would like to control the wah effect of. I have a Yamaha foot controller wired to my synth and all patched together through a Midiman 8x8 midi patch bay. I have a template project set up in order to assist  the Jstation with routing a SPDIF signal to my soundcard (both the jstation and my NI Komplete interface seem to prefer this, can't seem to get the Jstation to speak directly to the card,anyway it works great, no latency). Here's the rub. foot controller at synth  is CC#4, can't find anywhere on the synth to change this. Jstation wah needs to see controller CC#17. ACT seems very adept at doing some of this, but I'm not sure if it is the only or even best way to accomplish this,  as I am going from hardware to hardware. I was hoping that there is a way to "translate" MIDI CC#4 coming in ,and transmit CC#17 going out. Any ideas? If ACT is the answer I'm not sure how to do it. I always thought that ACT learns your hardware moves and assigns them to software destinations. Don't know if you can transmit back out into the physical world or if you can change the number.

A few thoughts on getting from here to there with CC-locked hardware:

• My MIDI router has on-board MIDI processors, but they're quite rudimentary (program change map, transpose, etc.).
• I use MIDI Solutions Event Processors for hardware-to-hardware (on a dedicated MIDI router port).
• If you're routing through Sonar, then the freebie MFX CC Map will easily solve your problem.

thanks for the quick reply. So, sonar doesn't provide  CC mapping, huh? Thought that might be the case, but wanted to make sure. I have been using MIDI almost since its inception, so I know my way around it pretty well, but for off the beaten path things like this, there is very little info out there. I am using Sonar, because of the SPDIF thing with the sound card, so adding a CC MIDI track was kinda the way I envisioned this. I'll check out the freebie MFX CC Map option

SONAR does in fact give you the means to map CC messages in the Piano Roll View and, most typically, the "Drum Roll" please... actually that would be the Drum Map.  However, these functions would not apply in our instance since you will need to program your synth (JJStation) to recognize your (Yamaha) pedal as the wah-wah controller or the MIDI message from the pedal as the wah-wah.  That is, as you described, a hardware to hardware configuration (pre SONAR input).  SONAR can send MIDI messages to your JJS, but then you will have introduced latency/delay if you were trying to send a MIDI controller message to your synth for controlling the pedal message.  You could have SONAR recognize the pedal as a wah-wah (controller) but then you would have to have a MIDI pedal to do so.  In such an instance you would have the pedal going directly into SONAR (via MIDI interface or USB, for instance) bypassing the synth.
 
I am not familiar with b rock's suggestions, but he is the man and would know better than anyone else in this regard.  I just wanted to explain your scenario and what options you would have to overcome the "connectivity" issues.

What Yamaha foot controller are you using?
 
The reason I ask is that I have never seen a MIDI foot controller that can't be programed.  I'm not saying that there isn't any just that I have never seen one. 
 
 

thanks guys. Mario, the FC7 foot controller is NOT a MIDI controller per say (that is, it has no standard MIDI DIN type plug). It is just a TS 1/4" (kinda like a sustain pedal just with varying level instead of a switch). It sends its signal to "FC in " of the Yamaha synth(s) which interprets that realtime information and internally assigns it to CC#4. I can transmit that information, I just can't change it to CC#17, which is what the Jstation wants to see (if I want to control the wah parameter). The problem with these two devices is that they were never really set up to be flexible. Yamaha (I'm using an old DX11 and an EX5) is perfectly happy seeing CC#4. You can change the target of this controller, just not the CC# itself. Jstation has a proprietary controller that sends wah info on CC#17. So, in order to send ANY MIDI info, I have to route it through the synth, then I'm stuck with CC#4. I need a way to map this to CC#17 or go buy a J8 foot controller which is prohibitive because, 1) Johnson sold their tech to Digitech years ago, who saw the Johnson products as redundant and dropped the line.
2) any of the J8s still out there are more expensive than the Jstation itself.
At least the Midi Solutions stuff is relatively cheap and flexible enough to do what I want.
I am going to try the freebie map B  rock mentions and if that doesn't work, I'll take a wah pedal and run it in front of the J station. I really just wanted to hear what the  models sound like ,which is impossible unless I rock it back and forth. But I'm not a slave to the wah, so this is by no means a make it ,break it thing. I just want to see if I can do it.
