I just installed Sonar Platinum from crash on a new laptop.  Got it working ok but now I  - can't drag/drop audio files into a track.   It will let me right-click in the track lane and import audio that way, but I can't drag and drop.  How do I get that back, is there a setting?

If running SONAR as administrator, Windows does not allow drag and drop from a folder into SONAR, however; drag and drop should always work from the media browser in SONAR. To drag and drop from the OS, do not run SONAR as administrator.

I should have been a bit more clear.  I'm trying to drag an Mp3 audio file from an outside folder (in Windows) into a track lane in Sonar.  It used to work for me but does not now.

Are you running Sonar as Administrator (Right click Sonar icon "Run as administrator") ?
Possibly there is a UAC issue with this new PC.

scook has it right.  Just check and be sure if running SONAR as administrator.  It sounds like in you previous install you weren't and now you are.

This shouldn't make any difference should it?   I am already logged into Windows under an account with Administrator privileges.   Also this a brand-new fresh install of Sonar.

Yes, it makes a difference.  Read scook again.  Apparently, you are running SONAR as administrator, therefor you CANNOT drag.

If I am the only user on a machine, and typically log on as a user with administrative privileges, how would I NOT run a program as administrator?

There is an option on a program's context menu to "Run as Administrator" and a checkbox on the compatibility tab of program properties to permanently enable the "Run as Administrator" option. This setting is different than running a program from a user ID with administrator privileges. "Run as Administrator" has more access to the PC and effectively runs a program as THE Administrator (a real userID typically hidden on Windows PCs) not just a user in the administrator group. For security reasons Windows does not allow drag and drop when a program uses the "Run as Administrator" option.

Some old plug-ins (for example old 32bit IK Multimedia synths) must have SONAR run as administrator to load. This is why some use this option.

I am logged into my computer as a user with Administrator privileges (I set up myself this way on my computer).     So if my user account is an Administrator,  how to do I *not* run Sonar as an Admin?   Seems counter-intuitive to me...
