Hopefully someone can shed some light on this: In X2, if you select a region of a track and press Shift-Spacebar, that selected region plays once and the cursor jumps back to the beginning of the selected area.  The selected area is marked in the time line with a yellow line and two triangles facing each other, like a loop selection but the triangles are clear.  In X3 when you select a region and press Shift-Spacebar, the selected area is marked by the yellow line and the facing triangles, but the triangles are solid yellow and the selected area plays back continuously.  While this is playing, if you press L or click the Loop button the looping will stop, but the playback then continues past the selected area.  I completely prefer how this works in X2.  Is there some way to make X3 work that way?  The way it is in X3 feels like a "bug" to me; I'd like to change it, if possible.  Thanks in advance.

Does shift + L help?

Anyway to obtain a list of shortcuts press F1 and search for 'shortcuts'.

Cheers...

No; that sets the loop points to the current selection.  Is there anywhere in the documentation that you know of that explains the change in Shift-Spacebar behavior?  I don't see anything; it's just different.  I also don't know if this changed in X3 or one of the updates that came later.  (I installed X3 and moved straight to X3e, or whatever the prescribed method of updating was.)

I believe this behavior for 'Audition Selection' is part of the 'Fast Comping' that was introduced in X3 (not an X3 patch).

Curious to see if I could get control of this, I hunted out the Audition section in Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts. You can bind Audition to any key chord or to a midi event, but this binding is still the new type of Audition Selection which automatically loops rather than playing through once.

I too have a case where playing through a selection once would be useful. For example, let's say you just want to measure a song you've recorded for EBU Loudness. You want to play just the one song (of the dozens in the project) and then have it stop so you can get a clean measurement of just that song.

How can you do this without moving the clip to a track with no other music on it without being able to have the transport stop playback at the end of the selection?

I made a video to demonstrate the two behaviors and how it has changed between X2 and X3.
