Hi Having made progress with my guitar tracks and drum tracks I am now trying to write bass lines in
Sonar 5 PE 'piano roll view' and I am getting the notes on the grid but when I play I have no sound.....
Can you tell me first if it is ok to use an audio track and secondly what should I set the input and output too..
 
I am using Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface with Sonar 5 PE.. 
On my guitar tracks and drum tracks my outputs are   Scarlett 2i4 USB 1/2
                                                     my inputs are     Left Scarlett 2i4 USB
 
I am not using MIDI

If you are writing in the piano roll, you must be using MIDI, there's no other way. A soft synth of your choice then plays what you've written on the piano roll. There's no way to create audio in the Piano Roll.
Check the tutorial (#4?) for using soft synths, if you don't know how to use them.
