Hey All

I want to transfer some songs I did for a friend in Sonar 6 from my old computer to my new computer. I tried to copy and paste the song xxxxx.cwp from one computer to the other but that didn't work. I'm not even sure that is the right way to do it. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Tman

Medium: Networked PCs, CDRs, DVDRs, Thumbdrive

Techniques:
Option 1. Per Project Audio folders-->copy main project folder with embedded audio folder to target system/directory.
Option 2. Export Cakewalk bundle of the project (export CWB) and transfer to target system/folder.

Edited for clarity: Both options work.

Wrong. CWP files only contain MIDI and settings data and pointers to the audio tracks, but not the audio tracks themselves. To save the whole project, you need to save to a CWB (bundle) file. Both computers will need to have the EXACT same version of Home Studio for it to work though.

Thanks guys, that makes perfect sense. I will save them as a CWB bundle file, and give that a try. I assume I can still save all the old files I want to transfer as CWB files?

That was so helpful. Funny though how I seem to be able to open projects made in one version in a new version and vis versa.

I must be tripping

I thought Per Project folders was the way to go!! Especially for transfer and backup. Hasn't everyone been on the "Don't use bundle files" bandwagon due to their unreliability and all eggs in 1 basket type of thinking.

What's Home Studio got to do with it? I've read and re-read the posts and I can't see any reference from the OP to HS only Sonar 6.
I thought SteveD's answer with the 2 options was the right answer.
Now I'm confused. Someone straighten me out please, or did I stumble into the Home Studio forum by mistake? No. That's not it. (Insert emoticon showing pensive disposition here)

As long as you copy the CWP folder and all its audio files you will have everything you need to tranfer to another version of sonar if its compatable. Some are not backwards compatable, kust upward compatable.
When i want to move files from my pc, i copy the CWP folder and its contents and save it on my external harddrive, then plug my external into another pc and unload the. its been working good for me this way for awile. Now i;m lookinh into ethernet to comunicate to my computers. It should be set up in a couple of weeks or sooner and then all i need yo do is set up file sharing folders and all 3 of my pc get get access to them.

Agree with SteveD, especially option 1 - I´ve had a few bad experiences with *.CWB-files.

Any newer Sonar/Homestudio-version should be able to open older version files.
