• SONAR
  • Signal Delay (Mic or Guitar) with Splat but not Reaper

I plug in my guitar or mic to my Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen2 and get nearly a one beat signal delay when using Splat.  I not only hear it in the monitor but after I lay down the track, i have to slide it over to the left and jiggle it around until I get it lined up with everything else.

When I user Reaper there is no delay at all.  I have a project I'd started in Splat some time ago.  All the midi is done and now i have the audio tracks with FX applied all set up in Splat.  I want to add in some vocal and guitar parts but this signal delay is killing me.  I've been in Edit/Preferences/Audio changing things one at a time all to no avail.

I'd hate to have to migrate all that to Reaper but it may be necessary.  But now that Cakewalk will live on in Bandlab, there's no imperative reason to give up on Splat.

There must be something to adjust to get around this.  I just can't come up with it.

Exasperatingly yours,
Alan

The "Delayed single" you are describing is what's called: Latency.
Maybe you have your device set up in Reaper but not Sonar.

Have you gone to Preferences>Devices to make sure the Focusrite is showing inputs/outputs ?
Have you made sure the Scarlett Solo is set to use ASIO in Sonar ?

Every hardware device needs to be set in Sonar. This is done in preferences.

The latency in SPlat may well be due to the effects you have running. There is some processing latency in all effects, and in some effects there is a "look ahead" buffer that can add substantially to this latency. Another possibility is that there is delay compensation that is set improperly. Chuckeybaby has a point, if you are using your onboard audio with SONAR or a slower driver for your audio interface than with Reaper, but a full beat of latency from that cause is less likely.

Hello..

Thanks for your posts.  I have reviewed everything - not that i understand what many of the checkboxes or parms are for.  But, my ASIO parms seem to be ok.  I've done a lot of sets and resets and never got anywhere.  Then I finally rebooted and half my problems went away.
The immediate playback delay I'd been getting no longer occurs.  But I still have to slide tracks around after recording to get them to line up.

I have noted many of the variables from Edit/Preferences/Audio in case something pops out as the problem.  If you happen to notice something that would be great.  But at least I can record without that latency distraction.

Thanks for your patience with this.

Uninstall totally Asio4All.

Download the Focusrite asio drivers for your sound device from their website. Install and use.

Your problem should go away

ASIO4ALL is never accurate in reporting real latency.
Use "Manual Offset" option (the second from last in your list) for positioning recorded material right. The value you can find precisely by making some tests, or simply put there the amount corresponding to the shift you do with the clip to position it right.

Problem Solved!!!  It was the ASIO4ALL.   I got rid of it, put in the Focusrite ASIO and now its coming out perfect!

One interesting note - now when i click the ASIO Panel, instead of seeing all the parms it used to show i now see just 2 items:  Sample Rate (48kHz), and, Buffer Size (256).

Thanks to everyone who sent me ideas.  I learned a lot with this one.

Special thanks to joakes!  You nailed it!
