Serious_Noize!
I purchased MC7 the other day and decided to give it a try.

In Piano roll I was wondering if there is an option to create your own drum maps, or add Session Drummer 2 drum maps?

I can't seem to find it if there is. I have searched online trying to find information about this but it seems most of the information relates to MC6 and doesn't seem to apply to MC7.

I have tried right clicking over the Piano Keys in Piano roll and selecting from the menu "Use these note names instead" but I don't see an option for Session Drummer 2.

Is this a feature that is not included in MC7 or am I missing something. Thanks in advance for any help.

In the MIDI track pane, click Output (O) and select New Drum Map. There are hundreds of drum maps and Session Drummer 2 should be in there; it is in my programs.

Thank you.  I had the Track Pane view turned off and didn't realize it. But I can't seem to find that option. Am I looking in the right place?

Here's a picture of what I am looking at.

MC7 does not have drum maps. I am surprised the drum names do not show up automatically for SD2. I thought it implemented the VST opcode which MC uses as the default Note pane values. SD3 does. I do not have SD2 installed. It is possible to add a definition to the Master.ins which will show up in the Note Names dialog. I can provide more details if you wish.

Thank You scook.  I found a Rock Kit that will work, I just wish there was an easy way to remove the note names that aren't available in the set to where it only shows the ones that are. I don't know how much it matters, but I can't remember if I installed MC7 first, or Session Drummer 2 first.

Thanks again!

The image you posted appears to be the soft synth folder and audio track. If, as scook wrote, MC 7 doesn't have drum maps included, my info is worthless to you. But, you need to select the MIDI track that is feeding SD 2 to change the output.

The names in the Note Names dialog are derived from the Master.ins.If you want to modify or extend the definitions, all it takes is a text editor.

Whether MC7 or SD2 was installed first does not matter. If SD2 implements the opcode MC7 is looking for, the names are read dynamically from the plug-in when it is added to the project.

Thank You scook! You put me on the right path. I figured out how to copy and paste and rename the Rock kit in master.ins, I had to do this in the C:\Cakewalk Content\Music Creator\Instruments\master.ins and the other one in C:\Users\USERS NAME\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Music Creator 7\master.ins before it would show up as an option.

I used Notepad to do the editing and selected save as and instead of saving as text file selected the all files and clicked on the file name to save it and replace it.

What I am wondering though, I have noticed all the drum maps show numbers where there is not a selection, is there a way to hide these or do I need to enter something in the master.ins selection to where it wont show those? Or are they shown by default and there is no way to change that? Not really that big a deal I can simply resize the window to not show them.

Thanks again!

I believe it is only necessary to change the copy in your user directory.

Master.ins is not really how Cakewalk implements drum maps. This is primarily intended as an interface to hardware instruments. This is why the names may look a little odd. They all relate to some piece of hardware. It is possible to extend Master.ins and it can be used to contain information about softsynths.

You can edit Master.ins to suit your needs. The only sections which matter to the note names dialog are the ".Note Names" section and the ".instrument Definitions" section below it. The names do not have to be numbered, you can create a named section called [Session Drummer 2] if you wish. The key is having the notes defined in the ".Note Names" section and a corresponding section in the ".Instrument Definitions"

For example if there was a ."Note Names" section which looked like this

There should be an ".Instrument Definitions" section which looks like this

FYI, I did not create a Session Drummer 2 section. I renamed an existing section to serve as an example for the image.

I think you will find the "General MIDI Drums" is pretty close to what you want. There are some extra notes mapped in the octave below the kick to trigger the patterns in SD2 and some minor instrument changes. They are all documented in the SD2 help file.

good luck

While on the subject of Master.ins, I will mention the master copy used while creating the User directory is located in "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Music Creator 7." BTW, ProgramData is a hidden directory. I am not sure of the function of copies of the file outside of  ProgramData and the user directory. SONAR is setup the same way. My guess is that it goes back a long way in Cakewalk history.
