Well... if they have to choose just one, between "Cakewalk" and "Sonar", I stay with the first...
Cakewalk is the historical name.

Based on what Bandlab personnel have posted, Cakewalk as a company has remained with Gibson. So Bandlab probably will not be able to legally use the Cakewalk name. At best Sonar will become Bandlab Sonar unless they decide to distance themselves from the Sonar brand name. And my guess is that they will do that, eventually if not sooner, by transitioning Sonar to a new name.

Cakewalk was recently the company name, when cakewalk was the product, it was mostly a Midi Sequencer and later until later years when Audio was bolted on. When it was reworked it became Sonar. But when Cakewalk was the product, then Twelve Tones was the historical name for the company

Well, since the new company is called BandLab, the lab part would indicate scientists. Given the developers had the old name of Bakers, perhaps we can combine the two into something that is similar but distinct, and portrays the serious work undertaken by all involved. How about the "Beakers!"

And we just happen to have a picture of them working on the newest interface for the DAW

rection would make a good name for it.

Its got rec for record and rection sounds a lot like resurrection and erection which is kind of what I got when I discovered Sonar was still alive.
