Noel confirmed it will be basically the same product, and how couldn't in be in the timescale. Re branding, some fixes and new features is what I'd expect instead of current Vst's being reworked.

I do wander abut things like the Blue Tubes bundle, and whether the agreement to include these was between Blue Tubes and the Cakewalk Company that is now closed, or the Cakewalk IP that Meng purchased. This desn't efect me s much, but fr many users Blue Tubes were among their first concerns. If this is the case, there maybe some other little bit that can't be included, but it's all part of a fresh start.

I tried to like the BlueTubes bundle, I really did. Just never hit it off. I won't miss it.

Gotta agree with you there, I mean some of it was OK but there was nothing that impressed me to the point where I reached for it instead of plugins I already had. I'd probably appreciate them if I was starting out with nothing though.

Gee, I'm not the only one then. To be honest, I didn't give them much of a go, but I did take some time to give them a good look over when I first got my hands on them. I didn't see or hear anything from them that I didn't already have well covered. But they would definitely be an attractive option for someone starting out.

fwiw, nomad factory (blue tubes) stuff comes up on sale at least once a year, so for those users who do like them there's a cheap way to continue, i got the full whack for $50 a couple of years ago, before they were bundled with sonar

It would be really sad if they are basing their new Flagship DAW based on the bugs that are still in the old DAW. I would expect some change to the code in its new form. I would not expect it to look similar but have similar features that we all know and love. But I do expect it to be a NEW DAW. There would be no incentive for new customers if it is solely based on what we have already.

From Meng's updated announcement:
"As you can imagine, there is some complexity in this, and I am currently personally working through all of the agreements that have a $ per unit or % dollar amount and negotiating to remove them on the go-forward to ensure this is possible. We only have 2 left to go - they are specific replaceable bits of code and are a nice to have, but hopefully this moves quickly. If it's not something that can be achieved, we'll replace them with either our own technology or work with other partners who want to be part of future releases."

At Rbh,
I'm pretty sure SPLAT has shaped my workflow, just couldn't get comfortable with any of the alternatives...

I knew there was information about replacing some code in there. They are working quickly and looking at change and development with other partners. I knew I had my information correct. Some of Ya'll need to reread.

However, if there is a name change I am sure features and the look of the formerly known as Sonar will have a different look and some features the same. Some new VST's and plugins why? cos Bandlab has to make their mark. We saw when Gibson took over the X series came into play from when it belonged to Roland so I expect the same especially if other coders are going to integrate in to sonar (Formerly known as) and put their stamp on it.

I think it is only to be expected but obviously, we have older heads that do not believe in change. Remember if you are getting a free crossgrade then do not complain if it looks and feels a little bit different. Plus the Bakers wanted to implement new ideas. I only expect good things.

Will it outperform Studio One 3 that is yet to be seen? But I do expect modern or quirky.

This is What Noel said 13 hours ago:

"Files are going to be 100% compatible and we're not making any big changes in the first release. As Meng mentioned earlier, we prefer to under promise and over deliver. Somehow I think users are going to be pleasantly surprised however :)"

First your signature says "Sonar X2" did you upgrade to Platinum?  Or are you stuck on a version that is vastly inferior?

And now to the next point.  There would be plenty of incentive for new customers if it is based on what we already have.  The last version of Sonar is without a doubt one of the best DAWs ever made.  Why do you think we had all the outcries when Gibson decided not to invest in the continual updates?  Many of us didn't even jump ship, hoping that another company would be smart enough buy it to continue with updates....even if those updates are just to ensure compatibility with Windows releases.

They don't need to change anything about the look or feel.

I'm sure the bits of code change Meng mentioned needed to be replaced are tied to 3rd party items.  He made that fairly clear in his post.

I would expect them not to include the Blues Tubes bundle (good riddance, never used it anyway).  Those of you using the Stereo Widener plugin, check out Ozone's free product.

If you want a totally new DAW move on to one of the products from another company.  I'm betting Meng bought the IP for Cakewalk because he knew it was a great product already that they could take to market easily.  Hopefully they will keep the theme editor function, so we can use a custom Theme we already know an love.

I do hope they can also keep the Overloud products in the Pro Channel.  Those are a nice value add.
