It would be really sad if they are basing their new Flagship DAW based on the bugs that are still in the old DAW. I would expect some change to the code in its new form. I would not expect it to look similar but have similar features that we all know and love. But I do expect it to be a NEW DAW. There would be no incentive for new customers if it is solely based on what we have already.

First your signature says "Sonar X2" did you upgrade to Platinum?  Or are you stuck on a version that is vastly inferior?

And now to the next point.  There would be plenty of incentive for new customers if it is based on what we already have.  The last version of Sonar is without a doubt one of the best DAWs ever made.  Why do you think we had all the outcries when Gibson decided not to invest in the continual updates?  Many of us didn't even jump ship, hoping that another company would be smart enough buy it to continue with updates....even if those updates are just to ensure compatibility with Windows releases.

They don't need to change anything about the look or feel.

I'm sure the bits of code change Meng mentioned needed to be replaced are tied to 3rd party items.  He made that fairly clear in his post.

I would expect them not to include the Blues Tubes bundle (good riddance, never used it anyway).  Those of you using the Stereo Widener plugin, check out Ozone's free product.

If you want a totally new DAW move on to one of the products from another company.  I'm betting Meng bought the IP for Cakewalk because he knew it was a great product already that they could take to market easily.  Hopefully they will keep the theme editor function, so we can use a custom Theme we already know an love.

I do hope they can also keep the Overloud products in the Pro Channel.  Those are a nice value add.

I have SPLAT thanks, with lifetime updates too (woohoo!) Now a free crossgrade.

I don't think Bandlab are stuck. I one hundred percent think they will be some changes, however small; and a new direction that will bring in new customers. The old people who don't want change will have to, if they want to continue to support with whatever direction Bandlab takes the newly named DAW. Would be nice to see third party support. A new GUI (Modified) timing issues solved and marketing more geared toward professional producers and newbies. I think you cats who have been around for eons will just have to crossgrade and understand behind the hood its still cakewalk. :)

Yes I have SPLAT I also paid for lifetime updates. I will be happy with the crossgrade. I also have Studio One 3
So I guess I'm winning all the way around.

BTW. Brian Walton i am sharing ideas no need to be so touchy. However, in the future I would like to see a radical change in the way Sonar acts and performs. Don't you?

I imagine that our free crossgrade will just consist of maybe the last update that never got rolled out and a rebranding plus perhaps, some kind of Banlab integration. If anyone believes they will be getting a brand new, amazingly redeveloped DAW, I think they will be disappointed :)

From Meng's updated announcement:
they are specific replaceable bits of code and are a nice to have, but hopefully this moves quickly. If it's not something that can be achieved, we'll replace them with either our own technology or work with other partners who want to be part of future releases."

I could be wrong but isn't this "The code for the included 3rd party plug ins that are free with Sonar (overloud, Nomad, Bark of the dog, exc) Which to me sounds more like a legal issue (seeing how some of these vendors unlocked our plug ins for free). Those codes need to be replaced. but you can take it any way you'd like.
When I asked for a link to.. where is this "new code" your talking about ? It wasn't this.

I think Sonar has a great upside for what it is right now, it could be better but it has a great workflow to it and amazing, powerful features.

But I just think its a little humorous to see anyone living a pipe dream waiting for a new coded, brand new DAW rolling out anytime soon, within the next 6 weeks.

Don't get your hopes up too high. Just be happy Sonar is back for right now. Only the future knows what's in store for this DAW. I hope its a great future.

As a cross-grade and as a Product being worked on by Bandlab and Cake. It will be a new DAW. I went on to say will it have new plugins and VST's. I also mentioned that it will be the same DAW but maybe with some extras, I ask a question what those extras may look like. The changes might be slight but it still will be Sonar (fomerly known as) some of you guys really need to learn how to comprehend.

Who said complete new code. Are you not able to comprehend, I asked if those VST's will be new and plugins. I also said some of the code will be revamped (why) because of the bugs that Sonar had previous. These I presume are the things that will be worked on. You guys really need to pay attention before shooting off at the hip lol
