This is a great point. We've had official word that existing users will be able to continue to activate the product in the future but has there been any word on whether authorizing new purchases still works?

It's  Home Studio with the Big Fish pack. I think it is legit and I was tempted just to see. but I already have Home studio so it might make a mess of my Product page having 2 versions.
I guess I could try to be someone else, I was thinking I could get it for a friend of mine who has been thinking about getting into recording. Free is a no risk deal and Home Studio is a good beginners DAW.  . And apparently someone posted they had done this and it worked,, I think its on the Cakewalk announcement thread. Also someone did the free HS purchase with some magazine subscription and it was not easy but they did get it registered. That offer is good until the end of the month. So I might have been wrong about not being able to activate a new copy of Sonar. The server is still working and there still people working in Boston.

Well I entered the redemption code and when I clicked on it it opened My Product page.. I still only have one copy of Home Studio so I guess I would have to try this and not be logged on first I would guess it might have shown but because I already have all this the product page remained the same. But my guess is it is legit as far as you might end up with a free copy of HS . But is it Legit in Cakewalks view. 
Real weird experience doing this web page is spooky. It asked for a log on but if you wait it times out and takes you to a page with the redeem code. Almost like some kind of a key generator ? So not sure if this is approved of by Cakewalk.. Like,,, who's paying for the software here. makes no logical sense.

Say's it da LAST DAY so hurry. It seems 100% legit. Opened Home Studio tab on my Products and there is a serial Number. Will now proceed to go and install.. 

All installed using offline activation and out of demo mode..very cool..

Yes, the free Sonar Home Studio is legit. Its added to your product list with a serial number. It is also in the download in cakewalk command center.
