BTW people can still upgrade to Win10 for free until Jan 16, I suspect more software will not run or will not be supported this year on Win7.

I scooped it up just for the audio loop library Not sure if stepping from x3 producer to sonar HS is a move up but one can never have too many samples...lol  and free is just the right price thanks for looking out guys

My Win 7 DAW systems are running great and I need to jump on some projects soon once my "transition" has made enough progress. I'll bet Reaper runs on Win 7 indefinitely

"REAPER supports all Windows version from Windows XP to Windows 10"

Not worried at all I should be good for at least a year and that's my goal for my current setup

Gotcha but I have no need for hardware upgrades at this time but point taken for when I do..

UH, duh,  I guess I never saw that W10 thing and have been using Home Studio ( the latest version ) for over a year now on a W7 Laptop. I think what they might mean is W7 is unsupported. So if you did have issues they don't address them. But HS has been solid as a rock,,, unlike it's bigger sibling which crashes from time to time. And Doing the same projects too. Go ahead and install it on W 7 it will work just fine.

If you have X3e installed Home Studio will use all your Plug ins etc. What you might find is you like Home Studio PRV better so you can work with both.
I can open PLatinium projects in HS no problem. There's just no Pro Channel but otherwise all runs the same.

Decided to give this a go. Got it downloaded and installed, but when I open it it's in demo mode. I did copy down the serial #, so hopefully I just need to authorize (although my understanding was you don't have to?)
At first blush, I see that it does not have an Event List, as Cactus had stated. not a total deal-breaker; no Staff View would be, but it has that. I guess I can figure out out how to do the stuff I did IN EL in PRV instead. I mostly put in CC 7&11, and I use 5 for articulation changes in Cinematic strings. Also, I like to do velocity changes in EL, both single note and a string of them (using Scale Velocity). I'll play around and see how it goes.
It's nice to have an up-to-date version of Sonar, even if I continue to use my 8.5 Studio. At some point I may need a more current version.

You have to go to the Sonar help menu and follow through with the offline activation.
I'm not sure if CCC would work right now. I don't have CCC installed on the computer I used.
You actually do not use the serial number.
I think you might like HS as it is at a similar level as 8.5 studio was but is the newer Sonar and most of the good stuff works. Especially if you do a lot of MIDI as the new PVR has got to be the bet of any DAW. Smart tool and multi track editing is brilliant and HS does it the same as the full versions.
