What makes you think they don't have the customer database? Of course, they do :) For a start they will need it to ensure existing customers can reactivate their products. The only thing Bandlab hasn't taken on is Cakewalk as a running business because the business was closed down. The business could be restarted, but it would be a brand new business then. The customer database will be one of the assets they took on, along with the forum database and everything else. So don't worry.

Thanks 35mm.  I figured they would have the customer db.  I have been a Sonar user since X-1 when it came out and upgraded to professional in the spring of 17.  I didn't hear about Gibson tanking it until late November - I waited a couple of months and then decided to move on to Studio One - which I am trying to get used to...but it isn't Sonar.

Meng, please, whatever you do, don't call it Splat.

To be fair, Cakewalk never called it SPLAT either. It was just a name that gained traction on the forums and in the Facebook group. I could never understand why, because it always made me cringe. People saying things like "Guys, I just opened up my SPLAT and...." I couldn't work out why someone would bring themselves to write something like that in all seriousness lol.....I mean as a name it's a marketing nightmare. Why would you want to conjure up an image of a wet thing hitting a surface and exploding when talking about a DAW? Is that what happens to your music when you use Sonar?

I think this is way too early to ask questions about subscriptions, licensing, crossgrades and how the software will look like. These guys just took over. It will take them months to go over every business aspect and start digging in the source files to "mess around" with the software.
It's great news that someone acquired Sonar IP, but like in any business acquisition and especially in technology, we'll have to be reaaaaalllllllllly patient before we see any tangible changes.

I know many of us are eager to get answers and updates from them, but we need to give them lots of time.
At least we know Sonar is in better hands now.
