  • How do I insert a saved project template into the quickstart list?

Sonar Platinum is a pleasure to use. With templates you put in the prep work once, save it. And you're good to go. I'm now saving about 35 minutes prep time every time I initiate a project with this template.

How do I place this template into the QuickStart list. Thanks. Leonard

To use a template select New from the File or QuickStart menu and all your saved templates will be available from there.

Shortcut for new project is Ctrl+N

When you create a template and save it, it should go to the default Template location which you can set in a Preferences>File>Location.

Don't know that there's any way of actually pre-programming a template into the Quick Start list . . . other than just opening a template, and Sonar will always remember the last 15 projects / templates opened.
. . . but you can define where your templates are stored (in preferences - folder locations), for example mine's in:
E:\SONAR X2\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X3 Producer\Project Templates
Then from Quick Start menu >>> Create a New Project - select the Project Template from the list of saved Templates.

If you don't open a template through the (Create) New menu option you will only open the actual template, not a new file based on the template. You really want to do the latter.

When you select Create New Project from Quick start a window opens with a list of all project Templates available.
If you saved your Template properly then it will be available there.
When you created the project on which you want to base a template, in the save dialog you need to select Template from the Files of Type box so your project is not only saved as a template but in the right place so that it's available for you to select when you want to create a New Project.

Leonard . . . mudgel is correct . . . I have edited my previous post, so as to not add any confusion to this.
mudgel has described the best way to do this . . . though your original question was to try and add templates to the quick start list, and I don't know of a way to edit that list within Sonar.

Thank you, Mudgel. Thank you, Noynekker. Then I must be doing something wrong. When I save as Template it does not appear in the quick list.

mission accomplished. Locate directory, Cut n paste. Maybe it didn't save to the proper location because the directory is several layers deep on a secondary drive?

I should save forum inquiries for truly difficult or confusing tasks/issues! Lol.

I just love these screensets! The whole Sonar experience is quite something when you work in color connected tracks and busses and image icons. Gorgeous organization at the press of a button!

Thanks for your help, guys. I really appreciate it. Leonard

You probably saved the template with the default file extension Sonar adds when saving a project, that of a CWP extension, and these do not show up as templates, because they are actually projects.

If what you are happy with on your screen for a new template, do the File>Save As, give it the name you want, but also change the File Type to Template, and navigate to the Sonar Version-specific Project Templates folder, and THEN hit Save.  This will ensure that it gets saved with the CWT extension, which are the only ones displayed when you get the list of project 'types' when creating a New project.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Bob. I found where Sonar placed my custom Template (it was stored in the project folder as a template), I right click-copied it then pasted it to where the project templates are stored. It works like a charm. Thanks again. Leonard
