When editing MIDI tracks especially in the staff view and listening to the play back my sonar platinum with latest version exhibits a fatal error and has to close my sonar platinum is communicating with my tyros five If I open sonar professional which I still have there is no fatal error in editing MIDI tracks via staff view. I have never had this problem before

Yes this is true for me as well, Home Studio does not crash after many midi edits but Splat does. It's a bug that alas will not be fixed. I either do all my midi editing in HS or I just remember to save and save and save. You can use Auto save but I find that's a PITA as you then need to delete the 20+ files it will create to keep your folders uncluttered.

How old is your version or Professional? I will bet it's a year old right? This issue seemed to haunt the versions from last Aug onward.

I have the latest Sonar Platinum and use it to edit exclusively MIDI and I have not had this issue. I am even editing for an external Yamaha SW1000XG.  What MIDI driver mode are you using?  What MIDI interface?  Using latest drivers for this MIDI interface?
