I'm not an Audient fan. I own the asp880.

MOTU has had very good support and drivers for the past 8 years or so. The only better brand on the PC for drivers is RME. Having owned MOTU products before, I can definitely say the sound of the new RME units are a good step up. The build quality is also quite a bit better, being manufactured in Germany rather than China.

Hello Daniel. This is my first post in this forum. Indeed I joined the forum just so I could comment on one aspect of your post, since I found online so little discussion about the Ultralite Mk4:

My understanding is that the new RME units are 100% made in China, whereas the new MOTU units are in part made in abroad (in China, I assume) and are in part made in the US, then are finally assembled and tested in the US.

If you have info to the contrary, please let us know.

Thank you.

I'm shopping audio interfaces and the MOTU Ultralite mk4 is what I'm liking right now.  If I had more money to spend I'd try RME but the Ultralite price point is right what I want to spend.

I've had a MOTU 828 mkII for a long time (probably 10 yrs) - bought it used, the front instrument inputs failed a long while back (apparently common) but it has scaled through all my new windows box builds (I bought a TI FW card) and new windows versions and I plan to use it stand alone to get another 8 analog inputs into the Ultralite via litepipe so I feel like it has had legs and can be still be useful in the future.

Other than the fact it always works I love being able to take a glance at the meters to make sure I'm sending to all the channels I think I am.

MOTU UL beats RME BF Pro in all technical specifications: I/O, DSP, stand-alone mode, even latency. And BF is made in china.
Who knows why people (including myself) are considering RME...

You can't make a bad choice between the Babyface Pro and Ultralite mk4.
Both have an average noise-floor of ~-114dB.
Both are excellent low-latency performers.
Both companies have long support life for their products.

If you're looking for a quality stereo I/O audio interface, also check out the Apollo Twin.
Average noise-floor is ~-116dB.

eehhhmmm...  I just bought one (Babyface Pro) two weeks ago ... the unit itself is perfect for my needs.  The only difficulty I've had is learning the signal flow of their Total Mxi FX software, which is incredible once you get the hang of it... I too was considering a MOTU, but was concerned about their Windows drivers... I'm sure they are more than up to speed now with Win 10, as as Roseberry said, you probably can't go wrong with either one.

Salud!

Reading the thread and the comment about where they are made had me digging around the net.
First thing I did was look at some pictures of the said interfaces.
Interesting that Motu really doesn't say on the web site, nothing, people on their forum all seem to not no or care, and there's never a reliable answer, but best guess is that some are partially assembled in USA. I would think any brand these days that is 100% domestic built will display that fact in bold print.

But here's the back of an RME Fireface. The Babyface is probably made in China, it would be on the bottom  I guess I couldn't find where it was made anywhere either. But I do believe there's some sort of law that this is displayed somewhere on the device. Most manufacturers will have lower priced units which will most always be offshore.

RME does not make a secret where they produce BF Pro:

What counts is the quality, not the place where it was achieved.
