You sold me, I ordered one today.  I'll give it a shot.  I have a SansAmp bass DI, works great with my Yamaha 5 string bass but not my Pedal Steel Guitar.

(I used to have a MosValve 500 amp - great amp but heavy).

I think your going to like it. I tool a chance and it worked out for me. Hope it does for you.

I had the Mosvalve RT 2100. I wish i still had it. Mine had two 12" speakers one on top of the other. The amp was tall and heavy.

I bought it through Amazon, who has a very liberal return policy. If it doesn't work its easily returnable.

The MosValve 500 Power amp was a 2 channel ("Stereo") power amp (only - need a separate preamp).

I haven't got anything like this anymore, so I was checking it out. I appreciate the heads up! I'm hoping my local shop will get one, but bringing it home is going to be the big test/experiment.
Nice to hear good feedback. Thanks

Fireberd, let me know how the pedal works out for you on your pedal steel and bass

I received the pedal yesterday.  Initial tests were not very good with the Pedal Steel.  I'll give it a couple more days and see how it works.  But, I've kept all the packing in case it has to go back.

Well, its going back.  I couldn't find any useful setting, either bass or guitar.  Also the pedal kills some of the bright highs and seems to add bass.  My test was the Pedal Steel Guitar with a Bill Lawrence 710 pickup to a Hilton Volume Pedal to the CabDryVr unit to a Radial Pro D.I. box to my MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid.  Checked the sound both with my JBL LSR308 studio monitors and with an Audio-Technica ATH M50X headset.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, would have been a cheap solution for you. Are you going to look at some of the other Cab pedals? I'm sure you would find what your looking for with the two notes Torpedo C.A.B pedal but that's $500 bucks. There has to be something out there that will give you the sound your looking for for recording direct. Good luck in your search.

I'm not going to go for the high $$ stuff.  Probably does do the job better but I don't need it that bad.  The price for the CabDryVr was worth the try.

Just curious why did you use a DI box and not just go to a line level input on you 896? Did you try using eq to compensate for the high frequency loss? Have you tried your bass guitar through it?

I used a D.I. box because that is normally how I connect things and I used the best D.I. box I have the Radial Pro.  If I use the TRS input jack instead of XLR on the MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid then it bypasses the preamp in the unit.  A low level "instrument level" isn't enough. I had the level control on the CabDryVr at max so it would equal the input signal level from the guitar. The MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid does not have a high impedance "instrument" input like some other units.

In the bypass mode, the unit did not cut the highs, but when used it did.  The "Size" control didn't do much.
Why would I want to try and EQ the signal?  If it can't reproduce the full signal (full fidelity), at least in the unit I had, I don't want it.  Maybe the speaker simulations were skewed because of the rolloff of the highs??

I didn't try it with anything else.  I bought it primarily for my steel guitar.  Its gone, dropped off at UPS this morning.
