Great that they say the forum will continue (I presume they mean this one!) Whilst many of us have moved on to a new DAW, these are still the best forums anywhere.

I want my codes for my products that I own.  If BandLab offers a nice upgrade path to former Cakewalk owners that is reasonable I will give them a shot. Like others here I have expanded my DAW horizons and realize other products can help me achieve my musical goals :)

Sonar has been good to me and hope BandLab will offer an offer to good to pass up :)

"The deal includes only the transfer of Cakewalk Inc.’s assets and intellectual property."

Ouch, I am not going to get too excited about this one yet.

Interesting, let's keep all digits crossed.

I notice on their blog they say:
"Other notable brands within the portfolio include Rolling Stone, the world’s leading voice in pop culture and music since 1967".  This conflicts with this from December 2017:-
"Jay Penske’s Penske Media, publisher of Variety, Deadline, Robb Report, and IndieWire has bought a majority stake in Wenner Media, the New York-based publisher of Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, and Glixel, reports the Los Angeles Times."

Anything can happen, but I'd guess this is good news overall for Cakewalk users. Their decision to emphasize the Cakewalk brand, the tone and language of the announcement ("The news you've all been hoping for...") looks like a deliberate attempt to engage with the user base and throw a lifeline to those who are sticking with Cakewalk's products. Sometimes, companies buy other companys' intellectual assets and quietly merge them into existing products or tech, and the purchased assets vanish and no longer have an independent identity. That doesn't seem to be happening here. It looks like they avoided buying the Cakewalk company because they didn't want to take on the debt and obligations (and why would they even want to, frankly?), but bought the valuable parts, and are now making an effort to emphasize that the brand and product are still alive and have a future. Nothing is guaranteed, but I think there is reason to feel optimistic about Sonar's future.

That's how it looks to me, anyway.
