Having said that I am impressed by how easy it is to make an "Acid" loop with SONAR and I am surprised that more people who do have an interest in loops do not use it as a first option.

I think the answer to this is simple- People who use loops are generally not musicians and use loops to make music, where people like you and me are musicians so we enjoy playing instruments. I always found searching through loops a huge waste of my time. It's like they are 99% junk and to find one or 2 that could be ussfull just take too long. So, yes make your own if you already have the instruments siting around.

I came to that conclusion after messing around with Sony Acid...

I think making your own and arranging them would be a suitable creative pursuit.

After being inspired by this conversation, I ended up making a Guiro loop and some Maracas loops for a demo so the band I am working with will consider adding those percussion parts to their arrangement.

The song is free play tempo so first I Set Measure-Beat tempo mapped the project using an existing cowbell and conga track as reference. Then the Acidized loops I made of the extra parts fit in very nicely, and ultimately they seemed more effective than the full length overdubs I had tired to lay down with my limited percussion playing abilities.

Very cool!
