i have a couple of 'in place' upgrades to windows 10, and a couple of clean installs from retail purchased windows 10, can't tell the difference, they all run as good as each other. if someone was to ask me for advice whether to do an in place upgrade to windows 10 or a clean install, i'd say give the in place upgrade a whirl first and save yourself a lot of time and effort. from my personal experience i have found in place upgrade to be excellent in every way.

Sir Les
IS THAT MIGRATION FROM WIN X TO WIN 10?...I PUT A LINK FURTHER ON UP ABOUT MIGRATING TO WIN 10 AND SSD ISSUES....

SO BE MINDFUL.

Sir Les
OK IN PLACE MIGRATION ...WHEN AND IF, SOMETHING GOES WRONG AND YOU CANNOT BOOT TO WIN 10...YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET SOME TOOLS WORKING FROM THE BOOTABLE MEDIUM IN A USB OR DVD OR OTHER EXTERNAL SOURCE.

THAT MIGHT BE HARD DONE, IF YOU JUST SELECT UPDATE TO WIN 10 FROM YOUR WIN 8.1 VERSION...ALSO.
AND IF YOU NEED THE DVD TO GET HELP....AND YOU PUT THAT OR IT AUTO PUT IT IN A DOWNLOADS FOLDER OR MEMORY....HOW DOES ONE GAIN ACCESS IF ALL GOES BELLY UP TO RESTORE OR MOVE BACKWARDS..IF YOU GET THE TOOLS TO WORK...IN THAT, I HAVE ISSUES TO.

SO, I HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF BUGS..OR VIRUS, OR HACKED IN OR SABOTAGE....BUT, I GOT ISSUES ON MINE...BIG ONES.

JUST SAYING I SHOULD GET MY GLASSES NOW....I NEED A DRINK.

all my in place upgrades were from windows 7

i haven't had any problems with windows 10 so far, but i haven't let it update since july. if i do ever come across an issue i would just recover from a disk image, at the most made 1 week prior, so nothing much would be lost, quick and easy, and all projects etc are saved to external drives (multiple locations/drives) so i feel pretty safe and secure

MS is constantly working on security for Windows 10. Many of the updates are aimed at making Windows more secure. Not to mention updates to Windows Defender. It is a good idea to let Windows update itself to stay current with security.

Anyone had any troubles with the latest important security update for nasty bugs last month, that will force Windows to slow down?
