  • Can I Save Changes In Sonar HS To Same Piece In Sonar 8.5 Studio?

Can I do this? Do I need Rewire? I recently installed that free Home Studio, and have opened my current project in it. It's an orchestral midi project. I like working in HS, but am not yet sure it will prove adequate, and I may go back to Studio 8.5. But I'm making some changes as I work in HS, and would like to have them affect the same project in Studio. I tried opening the HS project in Studio, but it wouldn't open. So, is there another way to do this?

Normally cwp files would open but with a notice alerting you that it was saved with a newer version, so this is new to me.

Try saving as a new file name in HS then open the new file in 8.5 that should answer the question for you.

If you save in a newer version usually the older sonar will display a message when you open the flie that it was created in the newer version and that if you make changes and save the file it will strip out information in the file that the newer version may need.

give it a go.

Well, the problem is still there unfortunately. I tried renaming it. Here's what happens:

1. I have done a project in Sonar Home Studio. It gets saved in a folder, which has the actual project plus audio.

2. I open that project in Sonar 8.5 Studio. At first, it starts opening ok, instruments load on to synths, although it can't find a couple of synths. Then I get two error messages about previous versions or later versions, I can't remember the exact wording. I click ok on the first one, then the second pops up, which is nearly identical to the first, except it's a little shorter. I ok that, and I get booted out of the opening dialogue, and I'm back at square one. If I try again, the same sequence of events happens.

I have opened older works in newer sonar versions with no issues, but this is opening a newer version of sonar in an older version of sonar. Could that be the problem?

I do it all the time.

I just got HS so will be installing and checking it out this weekend. If I find anything I'll let you know.

Thanks, Soens.
This is a great example of how this forum is so helpful. There is no other place I could have gotten a response like this.

I tried opening a "new" CWP in my 8.5 and it was a no go. But what works is save the file as a CWB instead and those work.

It's something to do with the coding that saves some of the new features are not backward compatable. I know Aux tracks is one of the bug a boo's.
CWB files are not perfect because they can remove certain data, not clear what this is, but simple projects seem to work fine. As always have back ups of your back ups.

Right now I'm saving to One Drive, but these are pure midi projects saved as both MID and CWP files.. I'm also going to go throught the works and back them up as CWB as well.

I saved as a CWB file, but when I try to open in 8.5, it opens it as CWP file, and the same exact thing happens. Weird.

And then never hear from the bloke again.

Sorry for taking so long but life happens. Will try again this weekend to give it a go.

Are you using audio and midi tracks or just one or the other? You might try dragging your tracks to the desktop and then drag them into Studio 8.
