  • Causes for Slow Response, Track Selection in U/I ? ( SOLVED )

Hi,

Without getting mired up in OS version or Sonar version, etc are there any reasons the U/I in a particular Sonar project might get sluggish in certain areas, such as track selection?  If I try to highlight multiple tracks the response is really slow.   While if I open another fairly similar project it is fine.  I've even seen some mouse drift although I'm not sure that's related.

Any ideas what settings or such I could look for within the project that might explain this?  It's not track count or memory related, already ruled those out.

Thanks,

Nobody??   Any troubleshooting tips at all??

I already tried archiving every track and disabling everything in the synth rack and even that didn't help.

Every time this happens to me, the internet is doing something in the background, disabling the internet always solves the problem for me.

That is a very valid point.  However I am not connected to the web. Or anything, stand-alone PC.

You raise an interesting implied point though...this could mabye be some kind of background task getting in the way but I have no idea what it might be, nothing in Task Manager showing up as any background task doing anything.  I've ran DPCLat too and it looks fine.

I know you are using older tech, so this might be your video card and a graphic issue. Do you have a dedicated video card? This used to be required on older systems. Modern computer can easily handle graphics now with on board video.

I do not think that change something in the track selection part... but do you have "Edit/Aim Assist" on? This option kills my old CPU when I move mouse in the track view

What is Edit/Aim Assist, is this a Sonar thing or a Windows thing you are referring to??

This is so strange.  I've now loaded two similar projects at the same time (not identical but fairly similar).  I've checked the Project options dialog and no difference.  I've even deleted ALL the tracks in the one "problem" project and then added new tracks.  But still, this project remains sluggish on track selection while the other is fine.   I just cannot figure out what I could have set/configured to be causing this, why one project responds fine and another does not.....

To be more specific, on a properly behaving project if I click on a track and hold down the mouse button, and then move up or down, the tracks are highlighted in real time.  But on this one project it is super slow and lagging reaction.

Keep the ideas coming please, not sure how else to troubleshoot at this point.....

SOLVED!  (Sort of, but now the cause of the cause is a new mystery.....)

This took quite a while to figure out.  There were two things causing this - 1) Having the Markers window open (that I didn't notice in the background) and 2) Having a HOARD of duplicate Markers (like hundreds).   I'm not sure how this happened.   I did just notice the Markers box was checked in the Copy attributes, but I didn't copy enough times to cause THAT many markers.

Anybody have any clue how I ended up with hundreds of duplicate Markers in the Markers view??   I probably didn't have something set right after rebuilding the DAW - but it's not obvious to me what is set wrong or how I got into this scenario.  Don't want it happening again....
