It is strange. I have one each in FX and Instruments in both Platinum and CbB. VCV-Bridge.dll is the synth dll. Check the VST properties tab on the plug-in and make sure it has "Configure as synth" checked.

Ewwww, I can't get VCV rack to hear midi notes from cakewalk, the start works and not figured out a stop yet using the core midi-1, and I'm getting audio into cakewalk fine. The midi routing just doesn't seem to work, I can't play any notes from inside cakewalk, and have VCV play them.

Try a logic module and "OR" start/stop from the Core MIDI-1 module to toggle running a patch.

I just tested MIDI out from CbB and it works here. I use the VCV Bridge instrument dll in the FX Rack then add a MIDI track with its output set to the VCV Bridge, drop a MIDI clip in the track, take the CV and Gate from Core MIDI-1 module and it plays OK. When using a controller instead of a MIDI clip make sure to enable input echo on the MIDI track.

The Logic OR works a treat, thx, That's how I'm trying to do it, CV / Gate from Midi -1 and absolutely nothing. Tested the patch with a NoteSeq inside VCV, thats running as expected. very strange.

GODNAMIT, trying to share a screenshot but this forums not happy about that !

I cannot tell if you are using the VCV Rack instrument dll in the FX Rack. The image shows the VCV Rack effects plug-in highlighted. I did not have good results using the FX, I use the VCV instrument plug-in in the FX rack.

I drag'd it out of the VST instruments list 1st into a blank project, it's a bit unusual, as it doesn't provide it's own audio track inside the VCV Bridge 1 folder. Then, I created an audio track, and used the VCV Bridge from the Audio FX list and put that into the FX on the audio (Track 2).

Glad you can see the screenshot, hope that saves some time.

Forget about the VCV FX plug-in and do not use the VCV instrument plug-in as a soft synth. Instead, in a new project:
  1. create an audio track
  2. insert or drag and drop the VCV Bridge instrument plug-in into the audio FX rack. DO NOT use the VCV bridge FX plug-in
  3. add a MIDI track with the output pointed to the VCV Bridge

Fantastic, sorted <3

Dropping a few midi notes where they overlap.  As long as I treat it with some care, it's consistent. I'm getting something at last from the midi, and still getting audio from VCV though cakewalk.

Keep in mind Cakewalk records data from the input only. If you want to record the audio output of the VCV Bridge route the audio to an aux track and record the aux track.

BTW, your image shows overlapping MIDI notes. The MIDI-1 module is mono, you will have to use MIDI-4 or modllz MIDI Poly 16 for polyphonic MIDI input.

Also make sure you MIDI playback buffer is 500ms or higher.
