  • Why is Mixbus 32C importing my mono stems as stereo tracks?

I have a bunch of tracks I'm trying to import into Mixbus. Some of them are mono, some stereo. It just imports all of them as stereo tracks (so the mono ones have one channel silent). I've tried importing them in bulk and individually - same result. The import dialog is correctly identifying these mono stems as having 1 channel in the import dialog, yet it doesn't seem to want to recognize this fact when importing them. I have the mapping set to "one track per file," which is the only option for a mono track anyway. Yet still with these stereo tracks with one side silent. Plus, when I play one of these tracks, the level in the master bus is showing as 3dB quieter than on the track (which sort of makes sense to me even though I can't quite get my head around why).

Any Mixbus 32C import veterans here?

I am only quoting Mixbus 4 here but not 32C but I can import mono tracks it seems. Have you read that whole section of the manual on importing audio. It is quite detailed and offers a few options. I will go back and check though in Mixbus for you and get back to you. It should be pretty similar I would imagine for 32C.

I just imported a mono bass track and it imported it mono. I make sure it imports it as a new track at session start, one track per file, best quality and no instrument. The description of the mono bass track is as you say, shows channels:1 name of track, sample rate, format, length and timestamp. Not sure why it's not working for you.

Yeah this is very weird. I had no problem in the original Mixbus. Definitely identifying the tracks as mono in the import dialog, and then imports them as stereo.

Here's the problem in action, perhaps someone can spot where I'm going wrong. As you can see, I'm about to import a track which is identified as having one channel....

And this is the result of the import.....

Trying  to figure out what is going on for you ...

I just exported a 5 min plus 24 bit stereo file of a song . I did my export as stereo split mono ,I thought that might of been your problem ...it is not ...I imported both sides of my split stereo mono files into Mixbus and they came in as Mono ...once I panned hard right and hard left the tune sounded exactly as it did in SONAR

Judging by the size of your files at the bit rate you exported them , they look more like stereo files to me ..
A Mono 48 24 export of your stem would be half that size  ....that's how it was for my 5 min song
Your file clocks in at 98+ meg my Left and Right Mono's clocked in at 48 Meg + for each side ...

Before you keep banging your head up against the wall trying to figure out whats going on in Mixbus do your self a favor ...
Take a step back and find your exported SONAR files in explorer ....right click each one and look at the property's
I suspect that once you look under details you may find your answer
My just imported Mono files come in at 1058kbps , my stereo files come in at 2822 kbps ...
Take a look see what you have ....I suspect that something went wonky in your sonar export dialog box

Taking it back another step , I have had some Odd things go on when I export stems out of SONAR ...
I remember one time busting my a$$ for hours and then when I went to export SONAR had remembered my last setting and I wound up  exporting my whole tune as Mono ...I didn;t want mono for most of my tracks because I had a ton of panning effects going on
I never do more than one track at a time exports , I don't care how many tracks I have to export ...
If it 40 its 40 and I check each and every one of them before I ever export another one ....
you can put this one to bed real easy ...
Create another folder for your exports , solo your tracks one at a time , and export that track only after you have made sure your SONAR export dialog is reading what you want ...
FWIW this is another reason why I always freeze ., then bounce in place if I need Mono exported ...
I really never exceed 40 tracks most of the time it's a little over half that ...the thing is even if i do them one at a time I'm only looking at an hour ...

let us know how it's going

Hi Kenny,

Believe it or not, Sonar was the first thing I suspected, I trust Mixbus more than it these days sad to say.....loads of weird things happening with it. But alas, I think Mixbus is the culprit here. This is what I get when I import the stem into Audition:

Definitely a mono file. And check out how crunchy that waveform is - this is a real lo-fi project lol

I always leave the Sonar export dialog set to "follow source" unless I'm specifically looking to convert the stem to something different - I think that was a fairly recent option they added, but it does work perfectly in exporting your stems in the same format they were in Sonar.

I think I'm going to have to take this up with Harrison tbh.

Hey James. I upgraded to Mixbus 4 as well but also did your test. Mono files for me come into mono tracks. But that is Mixbus of course not 32C. I would find it a bit weird if 32C did it any differently.

Hi Jeff, I tried importing the same stem into Mixbus 3 and same deal - identifies it as 1 channel in the import dialog then imports it on one side of a stereo track. Most strange.

Your file sizes seemed large ( to me ) for mono only files ...something is up
When are you gonna start a thread over there on the Harrison Forum ? I haven't seen one yet so I'm assuming you haven't started one over there yet ...
Were pulling for you sharke ....Were pulling for you sharke .....he he he
