I thought i was almost there with this one. I am trying to load a simple track with the 'insert soft synths' command. I have inserted TTS1 and also tried this method with CSC. I have checked the First Synth Output box and the Synth Track Folder box and i get a folder with two tracks in - the Synth track and an instrument track. I paste some midi notes into the instrument track but get no sound on playback despite all the inputs and outputs appearing to be correct. The input is to Asio4all Audio input 1 and the output is to Asio4all Audio output 1. One point to note is that the metres arent recoginsing any sound so it is not a sound issue but more of a channeling of events issue if that makes sense. Any ideas? Thanks

Your descriptions "synth track" and "instrument track" leave room for interpretation. I guess you mean MIDI track and audio output track (unless they've changed the naming). A "simple instrument track" means a combination, where the audio  track is hidden, sort of. It's better to start with separate MIDI and audio tracks, though, in order to learn about the "roots".
 
The MIDI notes must, obviously, be pasted or dragged into the MIDI track.
 
If that's where the mistake took place, you're up and playing in no time.

A ,not sure how to start with seperate tracks - when i inseretd the synth as mentioned it provided two tracks together - in a folder - one was the synth the other the instrument. This is the usual way to do it so am led to believe. So creating them seperately would be moving away from what was intended i guess?

Inserting a soft synth creates automatically the two tracks if you choose so, I'm not talking about
inserting them separately. The point is one is a MIDI track and the other one audio.
