Went from firewire to USB about six months ago with a Jim Roseberry-built DAW and RME Babyface Pro interface, and could never go back. Insignificant latency even under the most demanding loads. (Caveat: I'm not a studio pro.) Not cheap, but paid for itself in the restored productivity that I NEVER worry about now. Bullet proof and transparent to the music making experience...
