Nice pop track, I do wonder if it would not hurt to have a middle 8 or a breakdown in there somewhere, thanks for sharing.

Hi Matt, you've written a really nice pop tune that I like so much that I had to listen twice.  The mix and performances are very good, and the song stands on its own.  However, Wookie has a good point, and I thing the song can go in either direction.  Keep up the good work!

Excellent!  Very clean, pristine recording, perfect mix, nice song.  The change Wookie suggests seems optional but might be fun to try, if you have the inclination.

Seriously impressed with the recording -- can you describe your mics and other gear?  Probably has as much to do with process as gear, but I would love to get that great of a recording!

I don't think I'd change anything. I was impressed with how well balanced it all was (at least to my ears). Nice bassline and vocal.
I noticed a couple of glitches  2:37  and  2:39.

Thanks mate...I'm using an RME Fireface UC as my converter, Neumann u87ai on vocals, Grace m101 direct in for bass...the bass is a cheap Yamaha, UA LA610 mkii as a vocal preamp and for recording tambourine and other stuff that I think its compressor will work well on. Often I use the m101 for electric guitar and an sm57 often just using the guitar knobs to get the tone. I also like using it on background vocals. I'm thinking about investing in something else 'Grace'...they are known for very clear recordings. I use only a very basic lineup of mixing plugins.

I think a big improvement for me has been in recording things with a view to what part I want them to play in the song later and in sticking to a -12 to -18db peak recording going in. I try to have the tone as close as possible going in. After the fact I don't have outrageous eq tweaks to do. I'm using Avantone Mixcubes almost exclusively to mix on and they, in my opinion, have been top notch for balancing and getting things mixed.

Still trying to get my stuff to translate across as many listening scenarios as possible. In comparison to real studio stuff its way behind, but I'm ok with it for a home recording.

I enjoyed this very much. I definitely was sensing the need for a break down or something in the middle, but I liked it anyway just the way it was. The mix sounded great, and I also enjoyed the lyrics. Nice job!

What do you guys have in mind for a breakdown? A slower section or a more sparse section or something like that? I didn't consider it but it's a good idea. Initially it had 4 bar breaks between most of the sections, but I took them out in favour of just having the song hurry along.
