It would be fun to take one of these and have several different people mix them to see what comes out of it and how they differ!

The full multitrack library is actually here:

These are great resources to practice with.

Yeah, I've used that resource to help understand more about mixing. Well worth a visit

The cool thing about it is the range of genres available. You can audition the music real quick by listening to the mp3 file and if you like it download the multitrack and then drag the tracks in get going.  The standard of the performances seems to be pretty good.  It pays to practice mixing over a wide range of styles, not just one type.  As a sound engineering teacher I use this resource quite a bit.

The original suggestion seems to have been overlooked but I think it's a great idea.  Do you want to pick a track?  I'll certainly give it a go.

Cheers,

I am thinking to start one of the acoustic types with minimal track count:
Angels In Amplifiers: 'I'm Alright' Style: Smooth Acoustic Rock
Backing Stems:  •  5 stems: 115MB ZIP  •  preview MP3
Documentation:  •  Cue Sheet  •  Comp Sheet
Full Multitrack:     13 tracks: 285MB ZIP  •  →'Mixing Secrets' Multitrack Library
Support them by clicking here.

Or maybe:
James May: 'All Souls Moon' Style: Acoustic Singer-Songwriter
Backing Stems:  •  4 stems: 102MB ZIP  •  preview MP3
Documentation:  •  Cue Sheet  •  Comp Sheet
Full Multitrack:     16 tracks: 267MB ZIP  •  →'Mixing Secrets' Multitrack Library

That way we get a small track count to work with at first.

Let's make it interesting...Limit the mix and mastering to only Plugins available within Sonar Platinum.  That way
anyone who has SPLAT can replicate a session.  It may make it harder, and I know there are great plugins available, but not everyone has them.  By doing this, we can share knowledge with each other.

Also since we would all be able to download the same tracks, we would only have to share the project level files (I think this will work, but have never tried it).  At least the CWP file, but probably others.  Thoughts?

Sounds good.  Also it would be a good idea to keep a track of any specific mixing decisions or techniques used so we can compare notes at a later date.  I suggest we start out with the "Angels in Amplifiers" track as it has fewer tracks.

I can't check out these projects at the moment (hi-security firewall, etc), but this sounds like fun.
