I think the best protest I could possibly make at this turn of events is to finish my album, "This Earth" made almost entirely in P5, and release it.

There seems to be a lot of this happening this week! LOL. Nice one Dave! where is it? I would like to nab this!

It's coming, it's coming

Yeah dave,..hurry up.

This was bad news indeed.
My gut feeling is the reason they did it was so they could port the features over to Sonar 9 and the guts of the synths in P5 to be updated and included in S9 to. Remember cakewalk was going to release a new synth that never made it to market. So that synth shell is open for the older code to be added and updated if wanted. I dont think we have seen the end of some of the best parts of P5.
I am not going for the S8 deal, I am waiting to see what happens with S9. S7 is a great tool and I can do what I need in it. I dont need the Amber True Pianos, I already have it....
You guys are right that mentioned the Arpregiator and the Live features in P5 that made it a great Live performance tool, that stuff is not in Sonar... Also the patterns were great! If they dont include those parts in Sonar its a great loss indeed to all of us.
I am in the wait and see mode now...
Will there be a new synth?
Will Sonar 9 have the best of Project 5?

In that spirit, we would like to extend a special offer to all our Project5 customers.

How about giving users of both Project5 and Sonar PE a special offer? I already own Sonar 8, so a cheaper upgrade to 8.5 might be a better incentive. OR perhaps throwing in another VST package like Studio Instruments or something?

Or letting us sell/transfer our licenses.

Why would anyone buy a license of a product no longer developed?

Just because it's no longer developed and it works, make music with it.

Why not give us a sonar 8.5 packet to replace the defunct project 5 since we are now in limbow.
Might encourage us to stay with Sonar.

So you are trying to say that Music creator, USB Music pack, and  Kinetic has a much bigger commercial following than Project 5, I can't believe that what happen was you lost focused on what project 5 should be well here's to regain focus Project 5 should have been made for urban, and dance music production it had a little of ableton live and reason and its own production tools you should have just enhanced it own production tools I would have rather seen Music creator, Usb Music pack, and Kinetic get the boot because project 5 was able to do what all those do and more. I know Sonar is your flag ship Music Recording production software but project 5 had something that sonar lacked and that was ease of use and even easier than Reason and Live and cubase to me and everyone that used project 5. You guys should have just enhanced its production capabilities it already had. If you ever decide to bring it back from the dead which I think you should do because you would make guitar tracks pro for guitarist sonar for home and big studio use but what about that hiphop and Electronic guy Project 5 was just that but you expect us to use kinetic which is wack music creator still has the complications of sonar along with home studio so Cakewalk by Roland how about bringing back Project 5 V 3 with these new exciting features 64 bit multi core support, separate volume controls for track layers, full blown audio sampler now check this out were you can drop a rexloop acidized loop or slice it your self manually or auto chop it and be able to send it to velocity, Ds864, Dimension or any third party sample player and also make midi notes for each sample, also drag and drop audio from outside project 5, assignable knobs for setting loop points and scoll funtion, and you can't forget zoom in and out and some type of twist a loop function.

We regret to inform you that as of today there will be no further development on Project5. It will be officially discontinued and moving forward, support will only be offered via email. This was a difficult decision, and one which we carefully considered for a long time. Unfortunately, there was no way we could continue supporting this product at the level we felt necessary. While we were able to attract a loyal community of Project5 users, we weren’t able to garner enough commercial success to make Project5 a viable product.

I think Sonar could do to be rewritten/re-thought in the way that Sonar was in comparison to Pro Audio, streamlining the workflow.
