Anyone using the VS700C know how to assign a MIDI controller to the T-Bar? Specifically, I use Garritan plug-ins, which make excellent use of the mod wheel (CC1) but my keyboard has a combined pitch-bend/modulation joystick, which is not ideal. I would like to assign the T-Bar to control modulation instead but can't see how to do this.

have you tried to ACT learn the T-bar for the particular plug-in??? that might be the most direct way to do it ...
 
other than that ... you could possibly use a MIDI translater tool to re-map the MIDI messages from the T-bar to whatever you need in you plug-ins ... but I would try the standard options first ...

... to clarify; I DO understand how that works in principal but where the T-Bar (or any other controller) parameter is empty, Sonar's manual pages say I should do the following:
 
"Click the cell on the Controllers tab of the ACT MIDI Controller property page that you want to control with a specific knob or control on your controller/surface. You can assign knobs to cells that do not currently list any SONAR or plug-in parameter.

The cell displays the MIDI Learn message"
 
However, the MIDI Learn message does not appear and I can't see what I am missing. Anyone able to help with this?
 

I just checked ... ACT mapping the T-bar has some pitfalls. unless you do it correctly it won't work ...
 
To map the T-bar to any control in a VST plugin (e.g. VX-64 was what I tried):
(1) insert plugin
(2) make sure ACT button next to T-bar is pressed and LED is on (otherwise it be may set to x-ray the plug and hence won't work)
(3) make sure ACT button on left side of faders is also pressed and LED is on and channel section shows VST plugin parameters (if not VST is not in focus of VS-700 and mapping won't work)
(4) now click ACT learn on VST plugin to start ACT learn
(5) move VST control with mouse
(6) move T-bar
(7) now click ACT learn again on VST plugin to end ACT learn
 
Now T-bar will control your plugin parameter ... if it later does not, check if both ACT buttons are pressed ...
 
To map a ProChannel module parameter the sequence is slightly different:
(1) insert ProChannel module
(2) make sure ACT button next to T-bar is pressed and LED is on (!!)
(3) press EQ button in channel strip section until channel section shows your module parameters (e.g. saturation knob if you want to map that)
(4) now click ACT learn in the ACT command bar module to start ACT learn
(5) move ProChannel control with mouse
(6) move T-bar
(7) now click ACT learn again in the ACT command bar module to end ACT learn

then you need to check if Garritan's Aria Player itself has a MIDI Learn functionality and see if you can route 2 different MIDI controls to it i.e. your keyboard for musical performance and the VS-700 CTRL MIDI IN for the T-bar MIDI messages ... but that my be asking for a lot ???
