Discontinued? If manufacturing can't confirm delivery dates it's because they no longer are making them. Let's hope they are replacing it with something even better but surely that would have been released already before they started to miss the buyers they are now missing. Roland have a lot to compete with in the hardware scene and have prolly missed the mark realistically.... as much as we folk like the gear, volume sales are where it is at. Cheers.

I own a v700 set and I think it's great. But I've always thought it was somewhat over-specced for the target market. For most users, I reckon both the Fantom synth and the V-Link capability are pretty superfluous. It's like there's an obvious gap in the product range between the v100 and the v700.

Any news of a replacement?

I'm really happy with what it is right now (beside some obvious flaws that have been overlooked in the recent update...) and will use it as long as Sonar is supported but a new V-Studio breed would be very interesting to see.... a whatever "V-Studio X" would worth considering!

This is sooo common for Roland and I guess other manufacturers as well. I would say supm else is on it's way, especially with X1 and new features that could be implemented better. Be prepared for some gear lust.

If so, maybe they'll go the Presonus Studiolive route which seem to have a very positive response, or something like Tascam is offering.

Anyway if they do I hope they'll keep the moving faders (16 or 24 + master?)and add direct mixer capabilities with usefull monitoring effect that won't print, line inputs for outboard stuff and insert on onboard pres.

So 8 pres, 8 line in, 2x digital I/O so no need to buy 2 sound cards. Use two USB it doesn't matter or USB 3.0... Anyway, we'll see. The VS-700 was very close to be flawless... and still awesome!

What ever they do they need to keep the ppl who have bought the VS-700 system in mind so that a new controller will also work with the 700R and other units ppl may have. Roland is very good at making awesome stuff that can only work with their stuff.

Actually I'd bet the system is on it's way out if for no other reason that it came out during such a bad economy. Hence no big sales numbers at the outset.
Secondly synthesizers are prone to obsolescene and the Fantom chip is part of the deal.
Seems Cake isn't getting a dedicated IO. Not even a branded Octa caprture.
Also now that everyone and their aunt is making a control surrface the 700C is expensive and bulky.
Roland has been known to bail on flagship products in the past. See VS 2480 etc.
And doesn't it seem that Roland and Cakewalks honeymoon is about over?
See AOL Time Warner......

I do love mune and I hope it stays afloat.
We'll see.

Hi all,

I finally have a VS-700R on the way from West LA music. They were able to work with their local Roland sales rep and get me a B-Stock unit from Roland. I cannot tell from the emails fom Roland if the VS-700R is no longer being manufactured or just not available by itself. Musicians Friend just said that the V700 SET was still available, but not the VS-700R. You will find that most of the online guys no longer have the VS-700R by itself. If you are looking for a second unit, now is a good time to get one from Roland at a discount if you can still get one of the B-stock units- I think they have a few left. There is a great deal on a V-studio 700 on Ebay right now- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cakewalk-V-Studio-700-Digital-Recording-Workstation-/251027230055?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a72638d67

thx Mike
