seriously we must come back in time a little... just to remember good times :)
Roland bought Cakewalk, happy days and wonderful times ahead right?
They got the vs700 out, tailored for sonar 8.5 - Looks like they will conquer the world
When all was rock solid and amazing, they erased EVERYTHING they had and started a totally new DAW from scratch (more or so...) less than 2 years after vs700 release - Sonar X1
Lots of glitches, typical of a newly developped software, released under the pressure of a corporation's deadline... but the DAW must WORK since cakewalk are DAW prgrammers.... where's the console in all this? HOW CARES, sonar is buggy so let's fix that thing first...
Sonar X1d was not too bad. Corporation deadline = Sonar X2
Sh!ttier than ever with the console. No X2 features added AT ALL. Not a big deal if previous functions are intact. Well... there's some thread about it I think... LOLL Easy to see that they do not even have the console in the lab for testing.
New features on a not much stabilised core = new bugs. More time for the developper/programmers to spend with Sonar and the console is in the "miscellaneous" section of Sonar X2a patch bug fix list.
Also, Sonar X2 is having a hard time with all MCU controllers, so controllers in general have not been addressed yet. Maybe getting this aspect sorted will help the vs-700...
Let's not forget: Windows 8 is out in the meantime. That mean compatibility as soon as it's out, finish fixing core bugs for 7, face new ones for 8, adding touch screen compatibility to stay in the game (looks like a "cool" Roland exigence... anyway) and much more.
Bottom of the line, the vs700 was killed by Sonar X1. Less than 2 years later.
The VS700 had no chance.
