I suspect that there may be some legal reason for this.
For VS-X00, as well as for any other hardware control surface for SONAR, there are 2 different types of "drivers":
- Windows system drivers, so the device is recognized by the system and presented to (any) software as a MIDI device. I do not think CW has/had something to do with that code. This driver is closely bound to the hardware and it's firmware and it is not SONAR specific.
- Control Surface plug-in in SONAR. That is what you see in the "Control Surfaces" preferences. This program (dll) is SONAR specific. It is Open Source (for VS-X00 devices) under MIT license, so it can be distributed and/or modified by anyone without future license agreements.
I expect that in case of general problems (future Windows versions support, drivers crash, unrecognized devices, freezes, etc.) the only support company is Roland. For SONAR specific problems (something does not work as expected in SONAR, new SONAR features, etc.) CW can provide support independent from Roland.
In fact the same is true for all other devices. For example, ACT MIDI plug-in is CW creation. But CW is not responsible for system drivers of any particular device which can work with it.
