For my purposes capturing feel is good enough.  I don't need nuance.

The details:

I have a newly acquired Roland FA 06.  All of the built in rhythms (drum patterns) are 4/4.  I want to add some basic patterns for other time sigs (6/8 right now), which the FA supports by way of importing MIDI files.  I *assumed* it would be a trivial task to get a basic set of patterns out of EZD and/or AD that I could use for this purpose.  I also have EZ Player Pro, so I might be able to use that to do the mapping and record the MIDI out of it.  I'm not sure yet if that will work.

These don't need nuance because they won't end up being the final drum tracks.  Just something to work with to get song ideas going.  The drum tracks will be replaced in SONAR later.

I think suffering thru piano roll conversions or even just buying/scrounging some bits that are already GM will be the easiest approach.

The midifilemapper discussed above is prolly handy as a pocket on a shirt, but I'm not going to reconfigure my network/PC settings to use it.  I have no problem suffering in support of my principles

Hey Bob, if you just want to convert an EZD file or two, post em up on Google Drive or somewhere, and I'll convert em for ya!

Doesn't AD include lots of actions that GM doesn't, like cymbal mutes and such?
Doesn't that affect the mapping and/or conversion?

I guess any AD extra actions just need to be remapped to the bit bucket, or to an alternate key.  Better no note, than the wrong sound, eh?

I looked at the conversion rule sets that ship with MIDI file Mapper, and saw one included for "EZDrummer to GM", but none yet for "AD to GM".  But there is one for "GM to AD".

You would probably need to lay out the drum map specs for AD & GM side by side, then create the custom XML rules for what you wanted to replace.  That option is provided

That may be because the AD MIDI files are in some kind of proprietary format and are only available to be dragged out of AD into something else.

Unless...

You know the secret, hidden webpage in your XLN account. Log in, and append "/offline" to the URL so it looks like "https://www.xlnaudio.com/myaccount-myproducts/offline", press Enter, scroll to the bottom of the page, and there you'll find all of your purchased MIDI packs in MIDI format, perfect for use as INPUT to MIDI File Mapper.

Who's gonna write the AD to GM rule set?

Thanks for the secret tip!

I think that creating AD to GM rules may be a matter of personal taste.  I dragged a few patterns out of AD into MIDI tracks in a Sonar project, and pointed them to channel 10 in TTS-1.

In the TTS-1 GM drum kit, the kick, snare, and at least one tom sounded close to correct.  But I heard cowbells and weird stuff where some cymbals should be.  If you just want the basic beat, you could open up the pattern in piano roll and delete all of the notes above the toms, or move them to another pitch to play something more appropriate.

"We definitely need MORE COWBELL"

Thanks for the reminder.  I hadn't downloaded my last 3 MIDI packs yet
