Somehow, I just read today of Gibson terminating Cakewalk, like many previous acquisitions before it.
My first thought goes to the Cakewalk employees, I hope that Gibson will treat you decently and try and find positions in other divisions of the group, although I doubt it, or at least give you a decent severance payment.
I have been using Sonar since at least Sonar 6, so more than a decade. During this time, I have used other DAWs but did not see a reason big enough to switch. I am very sad that I'll have at some point to abandon a great DAW and try and find a new one.
I hope Cakewalk will produce a last patch to ensure its users can continue using/installing their softwares without issues once authentification & shop servers are taken down.
