Again, thank you for your kind and informative input! I put the new knowledge you imparted to me to the test. After loading a file into Music Creator I attached a midi cable from the Duo-Capture RX to my external sound module, and hit play. Was rather gratified to hear those vintage sound-canvas tones again! I recorded on a new track with my synth, no latency of course, just as my 386 computer 20 years ago was capable of doing. (love them tiny MIDI files)
Emboldened by my success, I added TTS 1 synth to one of my midi tracks and was rewarded by it's more nuanced sound, I cloned another track and added the Cakewalk sound center, again it worked flawlessly. I have further learned about midi files versus native formats, and why I was having to reset everything each time I loaded a file, i.e. saving as a midi file doesn't save settings, (!!) unlike native formats.
Tomorrow I'll get even more adventurous and do some more recording, maybe even audio!
