  • AMD's Ryzen launches March 2, outperforming Intel's Core i7 at a fraction of the price (p.2)

I have always built with Intel, but I think in this case we'll just have to wait and see

This one is rather interesting with the Ryzen breaking the Cinebench record. Not a whole lot of meat to that article though (so not sure if it is verified). It is even more interesting since Cinebench came under fire years ago for being biased towards Intel.*

*No need whatsoever to read this, but if anyone is interested here is the link to the FTC complaint citing Cinebench (among other issues).

While a partial AMD fanboy, the thing about slapping an Intel system together, Intel just works.  Nice that these new AMD processors aren't eating 240watts.

FWIW, I've seen some crazy things with coolers designed for Intel CPUs.
  • Same situation as described in that article (cooler mounted with a gap - had to use washers to solve the problem).
  • Screws far too long...
  • Water cooler radiator that was a parallelogram (half inch out of square).  Wasn't damaged during shipping.
  • Four screws needed (three of the appropriate type included, a fourth completely wrong/unusable)
QC can be pretty bad.
At times, you almost feel like a fabricator.

So far the reviews seem to confirm that 1800x lives up to the hype for content creation, not so much for gaming. Wouldn't that predict good DAW results?

The 7700k is going to win gaming benchmarks... because the higher clock-speed.
The 1800x (based on the benchmarks I've seen) *should* test out well for multi-threaded applications.
I want to see how the release CPU/Motherboard respond in low-latency audio stress-test scenarios... compared to the Intel 6850k/6900k.

Found this in-depth test review today at PCWorld ...

Ryzen review: AMD is back
AMD's vaunted Ryzen CPU is a multithreaded monster with one glaring weakness.

OK, so I got through building my shiny new Ryzen 1800X PC last night.  The bad news is that Sonar won't work on it.  Instant crash before the GUI even comes up.  So at this point, I believe you should hold off until Cakewalk confirms compatibility.

I'd find it odd that it would be CPU related.  Has to be something else.
