I have never found the fan loud enough to warrant doing anything to it.

As far as I can tell, its a fairy standard component, same kind of thing you find in PC cases. I'm considering just swapping it out for a quieter one at some point.

Well i have it on my left rack on my argosy ..and the night when i mix support quiet i hear it vibrate on the argosy ...even if i put forms under the racks and all ....in fact during mixing you don't hear it but feel noise in the background ...

John in fact i didn't pen the unit yet (except the day i put the ARX in ...) ...so i can't tell if it's standard i might yes replace it by a fan with several speed adjsutement ...

Edit : but again people tell me that i'm not humain but a dog when it comes to hear some ....funny ...but also trouble in life and sociability ....a whole other subject ...;)  )

I tried stopping and replacing the fan a few years ago to no avail. When removing or stopping the fan the unit will shut as a safety precaution. And while the fan is a standard size the connectors are entirely unique, perhaps to Japan since that's where they're from. I went to my local Fry's, looked at every fan, checked out all fans available on Newegg, and didn't find a single one that matched the connector of the VS-700R's fan.

Personally, I have no issues with fan noise. However, I had some components that were really noisy back in the day. I put my noisy equipment in a soundproof server enclosure. I'm not as brave to be switching out hardware...

Zo - nice desk... Can you fit two 23" monitors on there behind the console? I'm looking at that solution for my studio.

Thks ... but is there a way to keep the fan conected but to get of the vent so we tell vs 700 "it's here" but it's not !! ?

Vicevursa : yep but you will have interactions with monitors ....you will have to place it like my Adam ...not genelec witch gonna force you to get off the desk of 1 m to be in the sweet listening spot ....My genelec are good when i'm closed to the desk and adam , for serious mix when i'm far from the desk (1 meter)

But it will be ok anyway just not optimal ....this monitors is a 24 " and here the space it take font :

you will have 2 time this space remaining as the screen is perfectly centered ;)  ....if the screens are not close (like the one i have ) no issue at all with place but issue with eyes !!!

I planed to go with this intead of 2 screen  (same working space as 2 screens !!)

There is a small little tool you can get that will release the tiny connectors in those modular type plastic plugs. I think it's called a pin tool. I've done it with two sewing needles. It's just a matter of inserting them into the existing plastic plug housing. If they don't fit, put some small heat shrink tubing over the connectors and shrink it once you're plugged onto the board. If worse comes to worse, just cut the existing plug off about and inch above the plastic and sauder it to the wires on the new fan you want to put in. I'll take for granted you know which wires are which and the fan is the proper voltage and amp draw.
