"doesn't boot" leaves a lot missing.  Does that mean it does not power up?  Does that mean it will power on but fail the Power On Self Test?  Does that mean it will not run the Dell diagnostics? or finally Does that mean the OS will not boot up?

Why not let Dell fix it if it is still under warranty? Just a thought...

Dell telling you that the motherboard needs replaced is something I heard a few times when I used them for a business leasing plan. They were correct and Dell did replace the motherboards in a timely manner to get me going again. They get props for that, but not for the high rate I had to endure.

Thanx gang...it would not power up, I push start button and it would start to start and then stop fan would go then stop without kicking in. I'm sending it back to dell.I'm concerned about having to reload sonar, and all updates if they have to reformat the hard drive. Any tips as I got somebody backing it up to an external. Just when I had everything running smooth...

The last time I had to ship a PC for repair, the vendor (ASUS) was happy to have me ship it without the system drive.

If you are sending it back, I would make a disc image (backup) of the entire drive - all partitions - to a separate drive first.  Then, if they reformat the hard drive, you still have everything.
