Hi everyone, new new new DAW newbie here. ;)

I'm looking for a drum VST to get my sound rounded out before I start doing some recording, and one of the Addictive Drums 2 packages seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

My goal is to create drum tracks via the MC7 sequencer.

I'm seeing around the web that there are a number of issues getting AD up and running in MC7. Is there truth to these rumors?
If so, are the solutions "official", or are they hacks which may compromise AD's functionality?

Additionally, will I want to pull out what's left of my hair while trying to get AD working? :P

Hi Shannon,

Yes MC7 is compatible with Addictive Drums 2. When looking for plug-ins or synths that you want to add to your setup you only need to know that MC7 is compatible with virtually any VST2 or VST3 plug-in. You'll want to make sure that the vendor you buys plug-ins from supports at least one of these formats on Windows. At Cakewalk we love the Addictive Drums series and hope you enjoy it when using it in MC7.

I just loaded AD2 into MC7 and it worked just fine. Test both a single instrument track and multi-output. I did nothing special to make it work other than make sure the dll installed in the scan path for MC7. This can be done by either installing AD2 into the existing VST scan path "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" (for 64bit) or adding the AD2 default dll path to the scan path in Preferences > File > VST Settings in the MC7 Edit menu.

AD2 is a nice drum synth. I assume you know MC7 includes three synths with drum sounds: Cakewalk Sound Center, TTS-1 and Studio Instruments Drum Kit.

When one starts adding third party synths like AD2, the SONAR line starts to look good. AD2 with 1 Adpak is bundled with Professional and AD2 with 3 ADpaks is bundled with Platinum.

Because of that, upgrading to SONAR is also on the table as an option.

Regarding the Adpaks.....
Must one purchase the Addictive Drums 2 "base", then purchase Adpaks on top of those? Or is AD2 included within the Adpaks?

Thanks for the response, glad to hear that installation is seamless.

No, there is no base version other than the free demo. The ADpaks include the AD2 runtime engine.

Sweet. Thank you.

At this point, I think I may take your advice and move up to Sonar Pro. I was already considering it, but I just needed a little validation :)

Too bad I upgraded MC6 to 7 yesterday. Oops.

If it were more the $20, I would suggest asking CW to do something about the upgrade to SONAR. It still might be worthwhile to ask if they would consider doing something, maybe you could get a video or soundpack for the $20.

I took your advice. Cakewalk hooked me up with a very nice discount. More than I'd expected. Niiiiice.
