so How I look at it is E[font="arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: normal; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-weight: bold; "]xpansion Card for Roland Synths with 88-key Piano Samples is $270,Brass Instruments ARX Expansion Board for Fantom-G with Custom Graphic Interface, Solo and Ensemble Sounds, 50 User Memory Locations, and 29 Effect is $449.00, now the 128-Voice Expandable Synthesizer/Sample Playback Module is $1400.00  if you think of the price of these and think if it wasnt even in the v-700r what would the price be? MY point is the Fanthom isnt a cheap piece of hardware its a pretty penny and Roland aint giving it away for free...so building the hardware into the V700r had to cost at least $400 or more... just the sound cards are $300..
do the math... if I wanted a sound card and a fanthom then it would be a great deal. right now were being forced to buy it when it shouldnt be part of a sound card, at all EVER!!! I dont disagree that is a good synth..

You are a bit like me as I am in love with Kurzweil and I know the Nord is also a very good sounding instrument. I can understand why you like it so much. Seems like Fantom would be a good companion for it as well.

You are lucky over there in the US because the VS700R is a lot more expensive here ($3999) AUD which is about $3500 in your terms so if you can get a VS700R for $2000 I would not even think twice.

As of now I use an Edirol UA 25.
I just got the VS 700 system.
Will I just use the VS 700 R as my soundcard for all computer stuff as I have with the Edirol?

Thanks guys.
(I'll probably be bothering you a lot!   )

I'm not familiar with the UA-25. does it have an ADAT out on it? Actually thr VS 700 R is an interface-USB, soundcards are a different beast, but you knew that. I've got sixteen channels using a Motu 2408 Mk 3 in standalone mode via the ADAT out to the V 700 R. 8 from it and 8 on the V 700 R. If you're using USB for the UA-25, I'm not sure.
The VS 700 system will be much better I am sure.

It has an optical out but it's a USB 1.
It [vs 700] seems a lot better so far.
But
I still can't get the Fantom to play.....

Hey Steve I am sorry you are not hearing that Fantom yet! We will get you there. Checkout page 88 of the VS700 owners manual.  (or the first page after the front cover Fantom (VS) Synthesiser.)  The page I am referring to has the title at the top 'Inserting the Fantom VS Plug In'

One thing I forgot to mention too was the settings on the Midi Devices page. You need to make sure Fantom VS (VS700) is selcted in the Inputs and Output devices pages. Keep us informed Steve and let us know when you get that Fantom working! That Fantom is in there you just have not found it yet!

It doesn't matter if it's a USB 1 if you're going to use the optical out as far as I know. You should be able to sync the UA-25 to the V 700 R for eight more channels.
When you open Sonar 8 go to the surfaces/controllers page in options and make sure you have the console listed in the in/out ports. Open the Midi devices option and make sure you have Console and Fantom checked Inputs/Outputs. Uncheck everything else associated with the V700.
When you open a project with the Fantom inserted, you should get the Fantom coming up. Click the setup midi button and make sure you have Fantom VS in all four boxs.
As to your track inputs- All inputs Omni should work to start with on the Fantom midi track. You can point the input to the particular channel the controller sends later as well as set up multiple midi tracks for all 16 channels sent from your controller if it does that.
Make sure input monitoring is on. Make sure you have Fantom VS, left, right, or stereo in the input of the synth audio track, and of course that the output is set to get to your speakers. That should get you rolling.

I'm sure that's true Jeff/  I just need to hit the manual when I get back Monday.
I'm gonna try that input monitor button before I take off for the weekend.

And Craig, as to the UA 25 it's a USB 1 interface with digital I/O and analog.
I just took it out and stored it.  8 inputs is more than enough so far.
Now the 700 I/O does it all.
