Hi all,
I have finally had it with my alesis multimix 16 usb 2.0.No driver support, clicks and pops intermittently. etc. etc.
 
 I've been looking at interfaces. Im a drummer/keyboard player and normally record with 8 mics into sonar Platinum for my drum tracks.
I like the Tascam celesonic us 20x20, it runs thru usb 3.0 but my problem is Im running windows 7 pro and I would need to upgrade to windows 10 because the 20x20 is not supported in win 7 or 8.
 
I also like the Tascam us 16x08 which is supported by win 7 and I wouldn't need to upgrade my operating system. but this interface is usb 2.0. I'm not a pro by any means and this is my home (retired) studio.
my question is I'd like opinions on whether it would be beneficial for me to just upgrade to windows 10. My computer is dedicated for just making music so I don't need bells and whistles for an operating system.

my computer is Intel I7 , 4 ghz, 16 gigs ram, 64bit , and I'm using Sonar Platinum
 
 

The 16x08 can easily provide all of its data via USB2 speeds.
 
Is your PC DAW offline? If so, once again, the 16x08 should do nicely. Going to Win10 can be a pain. I happen to, mostly, like it. And I do like staying current.
 
One nice obsolescence feature of the 16x08 is that it will default to a simple 8-channel mic preamp if not connected to a USB port. It's also possible to take two 16x08 units and default one to a mic pre (wiring Line Outs 1-8 of the mic pre unit to Line Ins 9-16 on the USB-connected unit), giving you 16 great mic pres for less than $600.

I do go on line occasionally with this computer to download drivers etc. but I always disable it before recording.
I normally do all my surfing on my laptop.
 
 

Just so you know. You can still get Windows 10 upgrade for free. There's a backdoor. 
Download th ISO image and install from there. Don't use the on line installer. It hangs at 99%. Once you install it open a Chat session and tell the nice person how you need the Magnifier to see things. They used my W7 serial number and it's all good, and still free.

Even though there's lots I don't like about W10, I've now bashed it into submission and it's as good as any other OS I've used. I still have W7 on some laptops and it's getting to the point were some things are left in the dust. 
 
The Tascam's are the best bang for the buck for multi channel. I'm glad I kept my us1641, they updated the drivers and it works equally as well as my Focusrite now. I've been using it all week and no hickups. And the latency performance is almost the same as the Focusrite. It proves that the drivers are the most important part of a DAW system. The latency at first was almost double what it is now. So same box, better drivers, better performance.  Tascam might even start putting out drivers on par with Motu and RME if they keep at it. 
 
 

I just "bricked" my Tascam US16X08 trying to upgrade the firmware.  It partially completed the upgrade.  Gave me a notice to power the unit off and back on.  I did that but that was the end.  Windows gets a Code 43 error and it will not connect.  Fortunately, this is (was) a backup unit for my main recording interface (MOTU 896mk3 hybrid).  I'll be contacting Tascam about the problem.
 
 

Keep us posted on this firebird.  I was considering two of these as a small portable remote Live recording rig.
 

I have sent a request to Tascam tech support.  I hope they cover it under warranty (the unit is still in warranty).

I finally got a response from Tascam. 
Looks like my unit "May" be under warranty (if a failed firmware update is covered) but not labor that is only 90 days.
I'm leaning about not sending it back for repair.  Not worth it considering it may cost more than the $60.

I would MAKE them fix the issue under threat of going on every music forum and telling others of your experience. 
I certainly won't buy from companies that release firmware that disables a device and then abandons you. 
I've been recommending Tascam I will abstain until we see this is resolved.
