I'm looking to get two 500gb drives if not too expensive.

I just got a Samsung 850 EVO when the prices dropped and have been happy with it. The data migration (disk cloning) tool worked like a charm. I only have 2 SATA3 connectors on my motherboard so only connected the original drive and the Samsung for the cloning and when I booted up it had all directory junctions and authorizations in tact. The only niggle I encountered is that RAPID will not enable on my system, but it is not something I am really interested in anyway.

For those of you in the USA, try using a site like Newegg for ideas, too. You can get plenty of customer reviews as well as the usual technical info. Also for other general PC component compatibility knowledge, pcpartpicker might come in handy. There are other resources of course, but these are rather popular, especially newegg.

I'd go with anything fast enough, with a good reputation and from one of the main manufacturers.

I use Samsung SSD's.  I have an EVO850, 500GB that I use for my DAW system.  An EVO840 for another system and an M.2 SSD in my laptop.

I've been toying with the idea of getting one since I only have a 7200 rpm HD. Would it make sense to store all my audio projects on a SSD to improve performance? Thanks

For reliability and overall performance, the Samsung drives have been the ones to beat. Crucial has the MX300 which has been favorably compared to the Samsung, but I have no personal experience with it. All of my SSD's are Samsung drives.

Another Samsung SSD owner/user here... I have two in my laptop (1TB and 500GB)

But I was told to go for the PRO and not the EVO. Not sure why, but I took that advice.

Your performance would probably be improved much more if you kept the OS and all apps on the SSD. Normal 7200RPM HDDs are usually fast enough for audio files and moderate sample streaming.

The Pro mainly has higher sustained write speeds.
